Newbie here with a question

Hi all I am new here and new to the Rx8, I have had many sports cars over the years but this is my first RX8 and of course I am in love
I have some questions as I go along to help ensure my car is driven and taken care of properly. I am sure this is the place for all things RX8,

First question is this 2 cycle oil thing I am hearing about? I have had mechanics both Mazda and not who are familiar with the rotary say add oil to the gas tank some say don't.
Is there a general opinion here do or don't add oil to the gas.
Also I just bought the car a week ago and she runs fine but I am hearing what sounds like stones rattling in a coffee can around 4500 rpms just before shifting ( probably the frequency at that point is causing something to make this distinctive sound). It happens in every gear up to 5th. Any thoughts on that noise?
I appreciate any answers or opinions.

My 8
2006 GT Black with 2 tone leather
Completely stock at this point

Search for Premix and "marbles in a can" "miac" or similar issues. There's a lot of material to read on the subject and you will be able to make up your mind and form your own opinion on the subject.

For the marble in a can sound i'd also search for SSV and VDI related rattles.

I do premix, 200\250g when I fill up from an empty tank.

found problem of stones in the coffee can

If anyone else hears stones rattling in a coffee can as I did I think I have the answer. There is heat shield covering a devise forward of the cat converter and it is loose/broken and we think it vibrates at certain rpms. It only happens when things get really hot as in summer days over 30 celsius or 90 fahrenhiet which we have been having of late.
I may replace it because a clamp a mazda mechanic put around it didnot fix the problem.
Depending on how much that sheild is to replace

Well it could be that, actually it could be anything.
However the term you used Stones in Coffee Can is generally reserved for a specific issue the earlier models had.
It had nothing to do with the heat shield but the heater hose.

IIRC the fix was some sort of restrictor placed in the heater hose located in the engine bay behind the glove box area.

I am definately going to have a look into the heater hose thing though. It has not been not been acting up now for 2 days and I have been driving a fair bit and while at operating temp in very hot conditons.

Sure glad I joined this forum, there is a lot of valuable help from all my fellow 8 lovers out there. Much appreciated
