New RX8 owner

Hi, I have recently purchased a 2005 RX8 with roughly 135k miles. I t has been running like a champ until about a week ago. I have recently changed out all the fluids. I have followed the cold start procedure and have checked the oil regularly as well as redline it once a month. I have only put non synthetic 5w-20 in it and tried my best to keep it in top notch condition. Recently it has flooded a couple times. It usually starts right up but sometimes it takes a second to start. Today it died unexpectedly while I was idling at an intersection. It started back up but then did it agian later in the day. It idles ok at the moment . Im worried about what could be wrong. If you gurus out there have any advice or reassurance please help. I just bought the thing for 7k and I dont have $ for a new engine. Thanks!

When did the last time you replaced the coils, plugs, and wires? This might be the solution you need with the issues your having...

Do you have any CEL's up? (Engine light) There can be multiple issues with dying at idle, have you noticed any other notable issues, such as power loss (If so, what rpm range), hard starts (long time to start), etc.?

My check engine light comes on sporadically and then will go off for a week or so and then come back on again. Sometimes it will flash a few times and then stay on for a couple days and go off (wierd). The car typically starts up with no problem but every few days it seems like it struggles to start. It has floded twice total. I tried the unflood procedure and it worked after. The other day it sounded flooded but then i tapped on the gas and it fired up. I havnt noticed any power loss during driving. I took it on a straight away today and it performed fine. I just want to make sure I catch any problems before anything major happens. I am going to take it in to a place called Neptune Speed in Huntington Beach,CA. Just wanted to ask you guys to get a second opinion before getting bent over by a mechanic. They also mentioned about my coils which I have not replcaed since I bought it back in Jan. I know these engines are tricky to keep up. I have been doing alot of research on the dos and donts. If you guys have any tips I would greatly appreciate your input. Thank guys!

Your question needs to be posted in the 'trouble shooting' sub forum. You are in GENERAL AUTOMOTIVE where we discuss everything automotive EXCEPT RX-8s.

Best of luck with your situation.

Paul.
