New Owner Rough Idle ?

Just picked up my 8 yesterday in Jacksonville. It was 2.5 hours home and the more I drove it the more I loved it. I crused at 80 mph with ease. I traded in my beloved Miata for the 8. This morning after washing it in the light rain, had to wash off the lovebugs, I noticed what sounded like a skip to me every now and then, kind of like a little belch occasoinally listening at the tail pipes. Is this normal for a rotary engine? Power seems fine under excelleration. Its a 2005 base model only 5000 miles.

the idle will not be smooth. There is some overlapping inside the engine which cause this.

its normal, its a rotary engine, idles can be a little jumpy every now and then, nothign to worry much about. search around the forums, many new rotary owners ask the same thing, so dont worry about it, enjoy your new 8!!

rough idle is perfectly normal for the 8... no need to be worried.

Thanks for the reassurance. I kinda thought it was OK, but better to ask. It just runs so smooth when you get into it. Alot different than my old Miata. Everyone here really helped me with my decision to go rotary. I'll try not to too many rookie questions.

Update to the newest flash will solve MOST idle issues.

and use a good engine oil will also help the issue.

I use Royal Purple, tried both 5w20 and 5w30,

I will say 5w30 works better.
