New gas cap for 05 is far superior to old

If you have an 04 with an extended warranty or an 05 with extended or factory warranty, I highly recommend getting the new redesigned gas cap that is part of a TSB.

I would click my original gas cap and then by the time I would get gas it was barely hanging on. Got worse with miles. I was afraid it was going to cause a CEL issue. I had it replaced by the dealer.

The new one is completely redesigned. I would recommend those using the original to see if you can get the dealer to give you the newer one.

Or people could just buy the new for 12 bucks instead of wasting the time to go to the dealership over it.

If you go to the dealership to buy one, it wouldn't hurt to stop in the service department first to see if you're entitled to one for free under MSP13. If not, then walk over to the parts counter and take your wallet out.

Exactly...mine was covered under warranty. Mazda can shell out their own bucks for a defective part.

My old gas cap screw part was white and very ordinary looking. The new one has a light blue plastic and a much more complex insert. Pic below.

The recall for RX-8s applies only to ones built from Jan 7 through August 2, 2006. (It also applies to Miatas and CX-7s in about the same date range.) If you're not in that range, you don't get the freebie.

^well I was still in B2B warranty and was going back to then every time i got gas and getting the same code....I told them allthat and they kept saying it's fine...so I said ok where is my EVAP leak then if it'snot the gas cap they were like what? so I just bought my own and refused to go back to them again!

OH well that was a year ago and only like 10 bucks out of my pocket....
