new description of an old noise, whistle, squeal, chirp
Hi - I've read posts about a noise that occurs under load and at lower rpms. It's been described as a whistle, chirp or squeal. I'd like to add my description and see if anyone has the same issue.
The sound, to me, is as if you put a small washer onto a small screw and jiggled it. The sound level is pretty low, you really have to be listening for it. I'd say 25% of the volume of a break pad squeal. The pitch never changes.
Another way I would describe it is the high pitched chirp sound a 70's Volkswagon Beetle's made but more quiet. Wasn't that due to it's exhaust?
Thanks,
Jamie

The Mechanic Said.....
I had the car in for the infamous "water in the tail light assembly" fix and asked the mechanic about the noise.
The mechanic said that the noise was normal and it is the sound that the apex seals of the rotars make.
later,
Jamie

Check all the brackets on the air conditioning lines...I've found this to be the culprit of some of the rattling/squeeking/chirping you hear. It only takes a few minutes and it may save you a trip to the dealer

I've been hearing a cricket sound lately. Been going on for a few months and only when the car is started cold. Goes away after the car is at normal temp. Seems to be coming from the right side of the engine...definately not clutch/tranny noise.
