New Brake Sounds-Issues or Normal?

Hello all,

I installed 2 weeks ago, on all 4 corners, brand new Centric Premium rotors and Hawk HPS pads. Since my car has 130k miles, (and since I've had issues with the guide pins in the past) I decided to replace all guide pins and seals as well; I went ahead and replaced the seals around the piston too. With that being said, I'm getting a feint metal on metal sound coming from my new brakes. Mind you, this has been after almost 150 miles and 2 weeks of driving. I was meticulous on my install and replacement of seals. All areas were properly greased and lubricated where necessary. Calipers moved freely after the new install.

I checked for the clearance today between the dust shield and the rotor. Everything is fine. I also checked the clearance between the pad retaining clips and the rotor. One of the clips was close to the rotor, but there was no contact. I went ahead and fixed the clearance anyways while I was there.

I will attach a video of what the noise is here shortly.

My question is: is this normal over a period of time such as mine? Or is there something wrong here?

Best Regards

Below is a link to a video of the sound. The first wheel (the left front) is a louder noise than the second wheel (right front). Also, the first wheel is a TAD harder to spin.

Also, pads were properly bedded in following Hawk instructions.

Thanks for the help.

It sounds like the pads are rubbing on the rotors when you spin it. I would think that is normal; however, I could be wrong. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

Mine did the same for about 200 miles after my install, but I have slotted and drilled rotors. After a few good stops, sound went away and brakes have been perfect since. 4000 miles on them now and all looked good during tire rotation last weekend.

See, I knew it was normal after a short period of time. I just wasn't sure for how long. I'll keep an eye on it and hopefully it will go away!
