TX need expert tech. support

so ok. i have had my rx since feb. its a 2005 automatic. since may i believe i have been having problems with the engine stalling out when i come to a stop. i took it to the dealership and they said it was carbon build up. so i removed the carbon from my engine according to the DIY forum and now it takes forever to start and today it stalled out on me. i've put fuel additives in and the car seems to run perfect on them. but that is just a temp solution to a big problem. now when i shift into triptronic and rev it to 7000 i notice in second gear it makes a cluttering noise like something is backfireing or even rubbing. it only makes that noise in second gear and only between 5000-6500 rpms. this is driving me nuts. when i come to a stop the car idles erractically and then dies. once it hits 500 rpms sitting it begins to feel like its losing power then stalls out. takes 5-20 mins b4 it starts again. i noticed one time i started it up after it stalled and i revd to 6000 in park and i could smell a weird smell. idk if any1 has any ideas what it could be please help. i plan on taking it to the dealership in 2 weeks once i get paid again. mazda will probably decarbon it and tell me its fixed..but i already decarbond it so w.e i dnt wanna waste $100 gettting it decarbond again if thats not gonna solve the problem.

I'd first check your coils and plugs.

If I remember correctly, there's a TSB for the torque converters on the 8 for the bad and rough idle. What they do is replace the torque converter with one from a 2009.

My 2004 (6 MT) had the same symptoms at around 65,000 miles. They did the de-carbon treatment and then it would not idle at all. At that point they replaced the motor. Your motor core is warrantied for 100,000 miles.

Im guessing your over 100k on the car?? if not your getting screwed, what up with the warranty on the car, obviously if theres an engine problem theyre going to cover it under warranty and you have nothing to worry about..

if your are over 100k, i agree it sounds like it may be a coil/plug issue

Take it to the dealer and tell them you've noticed a loss of power and hard starting and it stalls when you come to a stop.
It's time for a new engine. And I would have them check the Catalytic Converter.
You have warranty on both still.
