my rx8's turnsignal lights dont flash anymore when locking/unlocking the car
It just started today when I unlocked my rx8 after work, the lights didn't flash and they don't flash when locking the car, any idea on why this would be? My fob attached to the key works from a far distance so I don't think it's the battery. Any insight on this?

FIRST check the trunk, the same exact thing happened to me the other day lmaoo and after quite a bit of searching i found the answer, my trunk was open i mustve pressed the trunk key by accident! if that doesnt work try all the doors and hood make sure evrything is closed properly. then if all else fails hit the emergency lights if they work its not the bulbs. if that doesnt work than idk what to tell you, just post here and someone should help.

Going to have to agree with everyone here. If it ever does that for me, it's because my trunk is open. Usually the wife pops it to grab something, never grabs it and I find out this way. XD

Naw, I have the same problem. It happened after I disconnected the battery. The lights flashed for awhile and just stopped. Now I hear the horn but the lights wont flash. Trunk is fine.

You guys are spot on! I forgot I popped the trunk for my friend to put his folding chair in because we were going fishing and he ended up putting it in the back seat! I can't believe I forgot I opened the trunk and it was open for 2 days! Thank god it didn't rain! I feel so dumb lmao XD at least I'm not the only one haha.

Thanks
Old thread but thanks a million!
I noticed the lights not working after it came back from service and thought it might be something one can set on/off and maybe it was reset to off.
Coincidentally my battery seemed to be getting weaker and weaker... until today it died completely.
I was ready to put in a new battery but thought would clean the posts and charge it up anyway and let them pop in a battery in the shop.
While waiting for the charge - I found this tread!
Again many thanks to the RX8 Club forum for keeping me sane.

Lights don't flash horn doesn't sound
Just to revive this thread I've recently bought an rx8 as a family car on locking the car the blinkers don't blink the horn doesn't sound and all the doors are shut the boot and bonnet are secure and there are no fuses gone, my hazards all work and indicators too but no flashing on lock or unlock and just as an extra question what does the bottom right button on the keyfob do the picture has worn off and it doesn't seem to do anything.

Smoking turbo yay
That is an interesting choice for a family cat, but heh at least it's not an SUV.
If your hood/bonnet and trunk/boot are securely closed, there might be a problem with their switches. There are small switches that tell the car that these are closed.
If you have a normal key fob(not the card), then it's a panic button. Hold it and your horn will go bunkers. Supposedly it just keeps suspicious people away from your car if you see them.

When you guys say that the horn sounds when remotely locking/unlocking, I have what sounds like a beep from a piezo speaker. Does not sound like the horn at all. Lights flash accompanied by this beep. Its the same beep i get when unlocking using either door button. Is this right ?
Another question - I went outside to lock up the car without the key card in my pocket and couldnt figure out how to do it. Had to go back inside and grab the card.
So how do you lock this car without the key card in your possession ? The outside button wont function and the inside lock buttons/switches dont stay locked with a door open.
Gotta say im not a fan of this function where the locks immediately unlock again if a door is open. I know its probably to prevent accidentally locking a card/fob inside the car, but manually hitting the locks prevents a code grabber from getting your code when you lock up using the remote.

A woman asked my friend what she could do as the battery was dead in her fob and she couldn't open her car. He reached over and used the key.
My battery was dead and the door wouldn't open and I was freaking - until I recalled his story.
Hope this helps -
In the old days if you pushed the inside lock, and held the door handle up, the door would lock. I haven't had to try that yet - but others may chime in here.

PS my horn gives a nice "Honk".
Update - I went out and checked... my door locks just fine if I engage the inside lock and close the door. ... Might be a 2006 Shinka thing

According to my manual (if all else fails, read the manual ) this issue depends on which lock/key system you have. My Shinka has the "advanced key system" with the key card, and the car can not be locked as Quids car can. The manual has 3 pages devoted to locking and unlocking the car depending on key style.
I need to look into why my horn does not honk though. Apparently it should !
I know the trunk is closed, but suspect the switch as occasionally the request switch doesnt activate the trunk solenoid.
