My RX-8 seems to be possessed

So about a few weeks ago, my rx8 stalled out, and I couldn't get it re-started, so after having it towed, I decided it was time to get a code reader. Well yesterday I was finally able to go get one, and as I was leaving for autozone, I decided I'dee give it a try for ***** and giggles. I get in, it starts right up, and I take it for a spin around the block a few times to let it warm up. I shut it off, go get lunch, come back out, and again fires right up, and runs like a dream.

So I decide to go get some gas in it, as I pull up to the pump it stalls out, and won't restart. I get it towed back to the house, go to autozone, get a code p0301. But again the car fires right up, and then after about 10 minutes, it stalls and won't start again.

p0301 tells me it could be anything from fuel system to ignition. I recently did plugs and wires(not coil packs). Any suggestions? I'm deeply confused by it's ability to start right up and run like a champ for 5-10 minutes before becoming a driveway ornament

You can try to replace your coils first, but I doubt that would fix the problem.

It sounds like Your engine is toasted.

Its time to go dealership to get it replaced.

That's what I was afraid of...... time to put the stock air box back on I guess, cus I don't want to give them any reason to deny the warranty

Since you recently did plugs and wires, I would first verify that all the connections are still secured.
One of the wires could have just came loose.
Then I would focus on the fuel pump.

+1. Have you ever ran your car out of gas before? Doing that will kill your fuel pump. I know cause I did that on my first car in high school.

I have a question about compression tests; how much do they cost, and are they a black and white result like you're engine is dead or it's fine, or does it give a numerical readout that can tell you if your seals are say, 75% dead.?
