Take it back to the people who did the tranny work. They may not have reconnected a sensor.

Im having this same problem after having my tranny replaced. Ive taken it back to aamco who did the tranny and they said they didnt do anything....

I talked to a mechanic friend of mine and he suggested maybe there was a speed sensor cable they didnt hook back up right when putting the tranny in. Anyone know about this?

I am having the same problem with my cruise control. It turns on, but will not engage. From what I have read on here, it sounds like it may be the switch itself. I guess it is time to head to the stealer...

Probably a problem with the button since the cruise control itself is controlled by the ECU.

If it's a manual transmission It will be the clutch position switch on the clutch pedal or the neutral switch on the transmission.
Either one of them will prevent the cruise control from working.

Yeah good thinking, I forgot about the switch on the clutch.

Also check the reverse switch while your down there checking the neutral switch on the tranny as well. I'm sure that has something to do with the cruise control too.

My problem was the clutch position switch. The previous owner bypassed it with a bare piece of copper wire and took it to ground which did cure the problem temporarily but it failed two years later after I bought the car.

Dumb thing about it was that the car was a leased vehicle.

OK will do and wow, he really did that on a leased car? I'd just let mazda fix it since it's least but the thing I don't get is why he bypass the switch? Bc wouldn't that not let it turn on or off?

the clutch has to be depressed in order to start the car, so my guess is that the switch was broken and he didnt have time to take it to the dealer. jerry rigged to let it start.
