Multiple Issues!

I have a series of issues I need help with on my 2005 Mazda RX8.

The Serious-
Engine flooding
Car shutting off
Slow start

The Not so Serious-
Speakers cutting On/Off
No flashing alarm lights
Sunroof makes rubbing noise

Further explanations

Engine Flooding - After driving my car a little hard, the engine begins making a gurgling noise, and is completely sluggish. Low RPM.

Car Shutting Off - After the engine flooding begins, and I bring the car to a halt (stop light - stop sign) it completely dies. It wont start back for at least 30 minutes or has to be jump started.

Slow Start - Occasionally after driving and cutting the car off, then attempting to restart it hesitates or doesn't fire up at all. It sounds like a scratching maybe screeching noise.

Speakers Cutting On/Off - I have the BOSE speaker system in my vehicle, and I've noticed that the driver side speaker will cut in and out often, and sometimes the passenger side.

No Flashing Alarm Lights - This problem occurs only sometimes, I go to set the alarm system on my car via remote, and the lights wont verify that its happened although the horn still does.

Sunroof Making Rubbing Noise - When using the sunroof I press the auto back switch and about 3/4 of the way it starts making a loud rubbing noise. It only started doing this recently.

These are just a few things about the car that bug me and I'd like to have fixed so any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Im 18 and in the U.S Army, so I have money to have it fixed but not alot.

Car Specs

2005 Mazda RX8
Bose Edition
Sunroof
88k miles
Oil change less than 400 miles ago

If you need to know anything more to further diagnose my problem just ask and i'll let you know. I would really appreciate any tips!

When was the last time you changed out your plugs/coils?
Do you have the upgraded starter?
Have you had your engine compression verified?

I have no clue when the plugs/coils were changed, I purchased the car in October '11

As far as I know the Starter is stock

No I have not had the compression checked.

I would recommend changing those. They typically only last 30k miles.

Find out from your dealer if the upgraded starter was installed (or, check the starter for part # N3H1)

But, I'm guessing that your issue is caused by low compression. Only way to verify is to use a rotary-specific tester (dealer/specialist).

Read this thread to get you started on your understanding of the rotary (RENESIS) engine https://www.rx8club.com/new-member-forum-197/new-potential-owners-start-here-202454/

Change your coils and plugs asap and see if that works. Also, if you have the original starter, look into that as well. You can check to see which starter it is by looking at the serial number on it. N3Z1 = Original starter. N3H1-A = Upgraded starter.

The worse case scenario is that your engine has lost compression on either one or both rotors and you will need a rebuild or a replacement.

What kind of oil and oil weight do you use? Do you keep up with topping off your oil?

Alright, I have a local Mazda dealer I can take it to. I have no clue what the starter looks like so i'll have them do that and check for compression. Thanks!

Does Mazda cover the starter or engine compression?

Mazda no longer covers the starter upgrade, and the compression test will only be cover if it fails the test, and you are under warranty

Ok, the starter isn't that expensive regardless, but I did read something on the Mazda site, that they extended all warranties 8 years if the RX8 did have the compression problem.

If your car is still under the 100k mi/ 8 year mark then your motor should be covered under warranty.

Might as well look towards your CAT too. Not gonna be the root of your problems, but all the unburnt fuel deposits from your frequent flooding has probably degraded it. May have fried your O2 sensors also of course if your O2 sensors were ruined as a reslut of this you should get a CEL code. i would start with compression test and then if that is good then move to ignition and exhaust. You got twelve thousand miles and one year left on your engine warranty. So get your compression checked to rule the motor seals out before you go spending all this money on the rest of it.

-The BOSE Sound System has a self-adjusting feature that allows the volume of the radio to adjust according to the noise outside of the car. Try to disable this feature by turning the AudioPilot 'off' and see if that solves your loss-of-volume problem.

-The lights when you engage/disengage the car alarm will not flash if either hood or trunk lid is open. Make sure both are closed.

-Sunroof noise have been discussed here as well. Grease up those rollers/glides... I read the tread for the DIY, but try a search for it.

Thanks so much! I think I just have a fried wire on the speaker, but as for the other two that worked perfectly! Thanks!
