Mazda Building Me a New Car ???

Soo it all started 4 weeks ago. I had been having problems with my 8 it had been running rough going through gas like a pig and would give the occasional non start but if i turned it over again she would start. Then the day came ... she didnt start ....

Had the car towed to Mazda ... of course they believed it was just flooded began deflooding methods. Had just replaced the spark plugs, coils, and wires 6 months prior.
Results
Not flooded plugs are dirty starter is shot .....
Mazda replaces starter no cost due to extended warranty with dealership

Car still runs rough wont start properly. Compression Check ..... low compression .... oil in exhaust.

Results .... Flying in new motor from Japan. 1 week 5 days later
Motor switched out still has loss of power ....
Replaced plugs no cost due to original plugs destroyed because of motor

Still lacking power ...
Checked Cat .... Cat insides melted and shattered .....
Ordered Cat replaced Cat and piping that had got so hot they were concerned it was damaged.

Oil leaked into muffler and burned inside of muffler straight through ... replaced muffler

O2 sensor possibly fried due to heat ..... replaced O2 sensor

Compression check ... good ... Cat + exhaust good .... Spark Good burning clean .... still lack of power ....

PCM Check ...... Possible faulty PCM .... PCM on order will be here tommorow again no cost ....

week 4 with no car .....

To Be Continued ....

NO POWER....LIKE REALLY BAD? Sounds like limp mode....Get them to check the MOP.....

It has been known to fail and throw no codes...but the car will not rev over about 3500rpm's

Mazda probably would not want to but, a new engine won't hurt. Of course finding out what the original cause is but 4 weeks?? Good luck.

meh i’ve had everyone of these problems separately would hate to of had them all together.

its why most take care of problems soon as they come up so you don’t have compounding problems causing more damage and ends up side lining the car even longer.

Oh i agree except this all happened with in a week .. car ran great up till the week before it went in ... it was just like a progressive down hill that snowballed very fast

Even through reading everything on here it seems like there isnt much left that they can replace or attempt to blame the problem on ??

I'm curious what insurance carrier is paying for this. Is this a policy you bought from the dealer?

Yep its an extended warranty i bought through automax a dealership here but since they don't work on rotary's they just ship it to mazda whenever i have an issue.

Apparently they had to order a crate engine and it came from japan ? Dont ask me I saw the shipping label when i stoped by to check on the car he showed me the new engine in the crate and where it came from.

Update :
The guy from mazda called today PCM is replaced after resetting all the original settings and attempting to dyno the car it is still running rough almost like it is not firing correctly and still has a loss of power below 4500 RPM and a slightly rough idle.

He told me blatantly he is calling around to other mazda tech's because he has no idea what else it can be at this point.

Things changed at this point.
- Engine replaced (Compressions good in both rotors)
- Cat Replaced (left off for remaining tests to make sure it doesnt get fouled)
- Exhaust piping front to back replaced
- Plugs
- Coils
- Wires
- O2 Sensor
- E Sensor replaced (shaft checked for alignment)
- PCM module

Any thoughts at this point would be great ?

No mention of Eccentric Shaft Sensor?

Seems like a part that should have been replaced?

Engine Harness is bad ?

Sometimes it throw no codes. but techs should be able to check it(if he/she knows how that is)

Happened to me. and it solved a lot of weird problems.

Mazda didn't really pay for your car. The insurance did

Seems it is running like **** in closed loop...

Injector problem
Coolant Temp sensor
MAF sensor/IAT
Poor sensor grounds

They seem to be just throwing parts at it

Like you say...they are going to build you a new car part by part till they accidentally fix the problem

MAF would explain the melted cat + high RPM issues + loss in power but really who knows at this point. Good luck!

for the money they're spending, they could put you in a new R3 and just call it a day.
