[quote=Raptor75;3978445]...and we have a winner! Bad Coil!
- Replacement took about an hour, easy to do if not a little tight to work on, I did not remove the rubber intake pipe from the filter box to the intake manifold. This made it a little harder to reach but doable. One bolt and two plugs per rotor. The three wire plug needs to be pushed at its base (closest to the wires) to release.

So how the bejeezus did you get to those damned things without taking that off. My 4-year old couldn't get his hands in there.
I'm getting paranoid now (car has 37K, runs great, but as far as I know is running on the original coils, though the plugs were recently changed) and want to get these replaced. Not looking forward to removing the filter box though. Your post had my hopeful, so I went out and checked...there is no friggin' way I'm getting my paws in there without taking that airbox out. That would be a guaranteed "drop the damned bolt, never find it, drive to the store to get a new one, drop that one, cus, get a beer, take the airbox off anyway" situation.

Not to drum up an old thread but....I ha e the same issues these guys were describing but my issue is I just did coils, plugs, and wires last week. Under 4k rpms, I can forget about flooring it. Any thing past a third throttle under 4k revs has no difference. After 4k revs the car launches. I did notice oil in the intake I think that's because I over filled the oil just a bit once. My 8 is an 05 with 40k miles. Any thoughts?

Hi,
Sorry to bring up an old thread but this is kinda the relevant thread.
Recently I've noticed the idle a bit rough. Sitting at lights, you can see the revs drop off a bit for split seconds then return to normal.
I can hear some random pops in the exhaust at idle.
It takes a few more cranks to start when warm.
It's hard to say if I'm down in acceleration power. What I can say is that it's not completely smooth - there's slight hesitation around 4-5krpms, but then when it goes past 8krpms, I can feel the car shoot, as if it had a turbo - I've never noticed this boost before, as it's always pulled hard and smooth to the redline.
Coils/leads/plugs were all changed around April 2012, just 4 years ago/18k miles ago, and the coils that time made the difference - but could the coils have gone again so soon? Or would it be something else?
Cheers,
Jon

My rx8 can't rev higher than 5k revs
Hey everyone, when my 8 is parked I can rev it up to 5k revs and nothing more and when I drive it doesn't want to rev up more than 3k revs. There is also white smoke coming out of the exhaust and there is a slight vibration on the engine, the engine start with no trouble at all. I'm still new to the rotary engines and I'm not sure what can be the problem.

year
miles
at or mt
recent service
still have a cat or no
white smoke is usually a water seal=rebuild
the shaking could be an engine mount or blown motor
