Unhappy Loud ticking noise on startup

When the engine is cold and I start it up, there's a loud ticking noise which lasts for a minute or so. I checked the oil level and it's fine. Does anyone have this problem or know whats going on?? Please help.

is your car a Manual transmission and does the ticking noise vary at all when the clutch is depressed?

It's a manuel trans. I haven't tried depressing the clutch when the noise occurs, but i'll try it next time. Is this a typical issue with the manuel trans?

the same metal parts that cause ticking noise when you turn off the engine can also cause ticking when you start a cold engine. Metal expands and contracts causing the ticking.

I think - and i stress think its the air pump (or some similar device) Mine does the same exact thing.

Just on a side note, whats the temp. when you start the car?

The Loud ticking noise only occurs when the engine has completely cooled, ie. sitting on the driveway over night. It last for about a minute and then goes away. Once the engine is warm, the noise no longer exist.

I get the same noise with my car when I fired it up in the morning. I've decided it's normal and probably the air pump that's pre-heating the cat.
