Lost wheel lock!!

So i lost my wheel lock...i went to the dealer and they want $100 to go get the master lock in the back and remove them for me. Im a broke college guy who doesn't have that kind of money! I did some searching on the forum before i posted this and i found a solution

If someone wants your wheels, wheel locks aren't going to stop them, but, they are going to make it a PITA for you to take your wheels off.

Does anyone know where i can get that universal wheel lock tool, or anybody have any better ideas on how to get that lock off? How to break it off? Know a place that can do it for cheaper? Any help is appreciated thanks everyone!

Cool Good tire shop.....

Any good tire shop will have various tools for just this situation, it happens (more than once) every day. Shouldn't cost much for them to send "the apprentice" out for five minutes to do it.....

A BFH and a socket you couldn't care less about it will do it when a "Master Key" isn't available.

WTF kind of stealership are you dealing with? I had that problem on a BMW and the service writer let me use their Master kit to pull the locks and reinstall non locks in the parking lot for free. They obviously aren't out to win your service.

i believe you can get this "universal wheel lock tool" at any home depot, lowe's, or ace hardware, or any hardware store of your choice, judging by the description blue eyes has here

Stealth - i'll check around and see if the price is right.. i went to a discount auto tires a while back and they said that they couldn't change my tire without the wheel lock, but that was of course when i had it in hand... they were just saying not to lose it.

lone wolf - whats a BFH?

Team - Thats why i walked out the door after the service manager told me that. The dude working in the back of the parts dept. told me they would probably do it for free but i need to go and ask the service manager first...

Thanks alot guys!

Check your glove box and trunk recesses. There's a card that comes with the wheel lock key that has the key number on it. It might still be in your glove box or stashed with your tire-change tools. You can order a replacement key with that number.

I just did this today. If you have a lug nut that's stuck, get a sockets that's slightly smaller than the lug and hammer that sucker on there. Then attach a breaker bar to the socket and turn.

Now for the wheel lock, I accidentally threw mine away a few weeks ago (don't ask) so I had to order a new one. My car came with a serial number from McGard (the company that makes the wheel locks). The one they sent out to me was the wrong one. The serial number that I gave them was from my first RX8. So, I sent them a digital picture of the shape of the wheel lock and they sent one out to me. It was $15. I don't know if the same company made the wheel locks for your 8, but it's worth a try. If you need more info, PM me.
