Question Loss of Power in 1st...

I've been experiencing a loss of power in 1st gear, between 4000-5500 rpms. I keep steady pressure on the gas but I feel a hesitation from the engine. So far it's only been this week and it doesn't happen once the engine has "warmed-up." Anyone know what this could be? Should I be worried? Thanks in advance.

From what I've read, sounds like you could have cat problems, but I'm by no means an expert...

Oops! Ok, I've also read bad gas, something stuck in the gas tank, oil clogging the air filter...

Throwing some ideas out there - anyone else?

Or maybe since it's not "warmed up" the engine is just going into safe mode? Did you get a new flash recently?

Yes, got the "N" flash earlier this month. I'm leaning towards the "safe mode" aspect since it only happens at the beginning of my drives, and it wasn't happening prior to the flash.

I would think that the gas issues and filters would effect my entire drive in every gear regardless of engine temp, but I'm not an expert either....

I agree with the 'safe mode' direction, since you mentioned the problem goes away once its warmed up.

According to some California environmentalists, cows pollute worse than anything. Kill all the cows!!!

I've noticed that since I got the 'P' flash, I have a little hesitation in first when the car is first started. It also seems a little sluggish in first when it's real hot out. I haven't experienced the extreme power loss I had a couple of times with the 'N' flash on hot days. Seems to me like all they do with these flashes is trade one problem for another...

On a positive note, at least my A/C is finally acceptable. It was over 95 today, and the car cooled off fast and I turned it down to 2. I also have no tint.

Question Did it happen before the engin warmed up?

If the loss of power occurred when the engine was cold, it is on purpose. The computer prevents over revving until the car warms up. Mine does the same thing when I first start up until it warms up. Has since I took deliver in 2003.

If the car does it after it warms up, then I would say it might be a problem with the cat.

Otherwise have fun.
