Loosing Coolant....

I'm kinda afraid to ask... But I don't know where to start. I can smell the cooland leak when I shut the car down. But I wouldn't even know where to begin looking.

There are no OBVIOUS puddles or anything...

I'm having to refill every week or so though...

How large is the cooling system? As far as capacity?

No leak...but cooling system going down = BAD

The water pump or coolant hoses would be the first place to look for a leak. Easiest way is to pressurize the system and look for leaks....there are tools available for this that make it easy

If there are no leaks...pull the plugs and hope you dont see/smell coolant...then you will need a new engine

It should be covered up to 100K miles under warranty though

Check your dipstick, smell the oil on it - Does it smell like coolant? If not then dab your finger in it and taste the oil.. don't ingest it.. you're checking for a sweet taste to see for a coolant leak.

I know it's bad... I was just hoping that since i could smell it outside, there might be a chance it was only a leak...

It could easily be the water pump......check that before you freak out Often it will drip from the weep hole..and run down toward the manifold

On my last car I was losing coolant and never figured it out. Until I replaced the coolant reservoir it had a small crack in it. It would start to leak when the car was fully warmed up then it would spill onto the hot engine and evaporate.

What kind of advise is that. you must had a lot of oil/coolant before.

There is NO sweet taste in all coolant in stores today. they added denatonium, its the most bitter **** known to science.
