Loose plastic on Driver's side mirror

Hi Everyone,

I recently acquired a 2004 RX-8 GT. I noticed the other day that the driver door rattles every time it's closed. After taking a closer look, it appears that the plastic piece that makes up the top of the mirror on the door has some play in it. Does anyone know how I can correct this?

I noticed a screw under the mirror, but it looks like it just attaches the actual mirror to the extension from the door. I'm wondering if a drop of glue might do the trick.

The plastic part you are talking about just clips on. I had the exact same problem. I popped the mirror off, then put a piece of foam between the cover and the mirror assembly. been rattle free since.

Any tips on taking it off? I can't get my fingers in there for the life of me.

If your talking where the mirror swivels I would bend mirror in or out and then shove a small piece of thin cardboard or use imagination to get rid of rattle. Mine rattled there and the painted cover of the mirror.

Thanks for the tips guys. Unfortunately, I'm still not having much luck getting it off. Popped a screwdriver under the mirror and felt like I was about to bust the whole thing, so I stopped. I'm obviously doing something wrong, so I guess Plan B is to try and find a YouTube video.
