Jump Start or Trickle Charge?

This morning, unlocked the doors, turned the key over, and everything went black. No power at all. Funny, I did not remember leaving any lights on, so my question is:

What luck do you have with jumper cables verses trickle charging the battery? Any pros or cons?

Both work. Really just a matter of what's available and how soon you need to go.

If the battery is way down, you might need to leave the donor car running and cables connected for a few minutes before yours will start. But you'll be rolling in a few minutes, as opposed to many hours for a trickle charge. After a jump, of course, you need to either drive for some time or hook up a charger to refill the battery.

And you need to test the battery and charging system. And figure out why it went dead.

using a regular battery charger for the OE or similar battery is better, trickle chargers are for racing batteries or for extended shutdowns

if you jump it and the battery is going out you may end up dead again at your destination

the car will die during idle if the battery is unable to hold a charge or DOA

^ Yep, normal charger should be better than trickle.

I have cables and a multi meter. It was odd that I lost complete 100% power. Not even a chirp or dim light anywhere, after turning the key.

^Did you get it running yet? Is there any chance it could it have been the immobilizer system and not the battery?

Weird - I got home and it fired right up!

Something caused a complete loss of juice, so I'll be inspecting things tonight.

these are the cheapest POS battery connectors I've ever seen, just about to order another new pair because the original ones stretched and will not stay tight on my terminals. You can squeeze them and they'll stay tight for a while, but over time stretch and loosen again
