If you go catless, will you smoke a bit?

So i have an 04 rx8 gt with about 140,000 km's on it.

straight pipe (just had it installed), exhaust, intake. also running a pre mix (about 6 ounces per fill of 2 stroke synthetic)

5w30 oil. just had an oil change.

I noticed a bit of "haze" in my side mirrors behind me. it is running rich right now, need a tune.

I asked a friend followin me if my exhaust was smoking, she said ya. i said what color , she said a darker color.

Anyone know if this is normal? its not super thick, but visible on a hot day still.

Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

Mark

Yes, you can smoke a bit. If you get puffs of smoke (white or blue) on hard, in-gear, deceleration (like downshifting to 3rd), then it signifies a problem with the coolant seals / oil rings and you are looking at an engine rebuild. Faint smoke on full or transient throttle is not a problem.

(We have lots of emissions, and removing the cat stops cleaning them, and they can be visible)

I have also noticed that when experimenting with certain premixes I have found that some of them smoke more than others, especially the Marine TC3W stuff.

thanks guys, i figured it was normal, cuz there was definitely a power increase. and she's running fine, but i know a rebuild is around the corner in the upcoming years anyways.

Yeah, it can be bad for cat converters. If you don't have a cat it's not an issue but ideally you want to use a JASO rated 2 stroke.
