Idle and warm start issues

I have an 04 manual with 170,000 on the car. It has a remand motor in it now and it has 40,000 on it. Just recently, at idle, my car would die. I changed plugs, wires and coils. Car will start up fine and idle until I drive it. If I come to a stop light or just push the clutch in it will die. Then being that the engine is warmed up, it won't start again until it cools down. It's starts up like it normally does and doesn't have any loss of power when driving until you stop or try to let it idle. I've been told to get the compression checked and that it could be the fuel pump. I need some input as to what to do next. Thanks in advance for any help/ advice. It's greatly needed.

Yeah, hot start problems are usually bad compression, get it checked, then get the fuel pump checked.

Thanks man. It just puzzles me bc it starts fine and runs fine. No loss of power or anything like that. It just seems like it chokes itself out and dies. It doesn't act like it did when the my other motor when it went out.

Like BC said, a comp test, it will at least let you know the general condition of your engine, if you come to a dead stop and feather the throttle, does it still cut out,is it the original fuel pump and how much gas is in the tank when the engine shuts down. I'm no expert but it does seem to be compression related,at least the non hot starts. You probably wouldn't notice the lack of power when the engine gradually loses compression.

It will stay running if I feather the gas. But as soon as I let off the gas or push in the clutch, it will die. I'm unsure about the fuel pump. The fact that it starts up so easily is the confusing part. It does no matter how much gas is in it The bad engine would make that "bump bump bump" sound as it tried to start.

OP,

It is possible that the fuel pump is old, tired and when it gets hot it cuts out. Not exactly and un-common problem.

With what your describing it sounds like compression loss.

When the engine gets hot metal expands. The housings expand more than the rotors, eventually the seals can't maintain the gap anymore.

You could check the CAT after a quick drive to see if it's glowing.

There are a few other things that are possible but overall the best thing you can do is get a compression test. If it comes back good, we know to look elsewhere OR it will confirm compression loss.

I am generalizing, but a lot of guy's have had a similar issue, it starts well when cold and difficult to start when hot, me included. Low comp was more often than not the culprit. I realise it's the last thing you want is for this engine to be toast, I would bite the bullet and get a comp test.
1 more thing, when its hot and running,in the situation where if you let off the gas and it dies, what happens when you depress the clutch, will it continue to run when you depress the clutch while feathering the gas, or shut down .

It will run while depressing the clutch and feathering the gas.

heyo, let me first apologize to the OP for hijacking this thread. i tried posting a new thread but it would seem i'm unable. still, my question is absolutely related...

so my engine is having difficulty hot starting as well. i've read all i could and i have made an appointment with a Mazda dealership to have my compression tested next week. so here's my question... UNTIL THEN, are there any tips for the difficult hot starts? does it help to give it gas whilst starting? should i carry a can of starting fluid? fill my gas tank with higher octane or some sort of fuel booster? would it even benefit me to have my battery load tested at the nearest auto parts store?

check compression first.
