I have a 2004 rd8 6 speed with 53k. Car was driving fine until it started to lose power. When I stop at a red light it turned off. No check engine light! After cracking 5-6 seconds at a time for about 5 tries it started again and I drove it home but with noticeable power loss. It was about 90 degrees outside. A few hours later that night I start the car and it fires up like it always did so I take it out for a drive and the car is running just fine. Drove it for like 15 minutes. When I was getting home the car started to lose power again. Luckily I was already home. This morning it started up fine but in the afternoon when it hot outside it won't start. Please tell me it's just the coils plugs and wires. When the car is cold it runs good and fast. no noises or cel. I promise I've been searching for answers since yesterday lol I bought this car used a 49k miles.

Those are symptoms of compression loss. You may need new coils/plugs and a new engine, or just new coils/plugs, so I'd say check the compression and look at your options from there. You'll want new coils/plugs on the new engine if you choose to keep the car, but no sense putting new parts on a busted engine.

Where's the compression suppose to be at. Can a regular compression tester tool for piston engines be used. I really don't want to have to buy a new engine. I just bought the car December 2012 May

I already purchased the coils, plugs and wires. I'm just gonna install them and hope for the best. If that doesn't work I'll get a compression test. But what numbers am I suppose to get for the compression

Will do. I was looking around today and noticed one of the wires on a spark plug was almost completely off. I pushed it back in the best I could but no click. The brand of the wires is sumitomo which I found out they are oem. Still waiting for my parts to arrive by mail.

Sometimes you wont get the audible click but you should at least be able to feel it pop onto the plug. I just changed my plugs a few days ago and I think only one of the wires clicked loud enough to hear but they are all definitely on there properly.
New plugs can make a huge difference in how smooth the car runs but the coils will help much more if you are still running the original ones.

Update: changed out the coils and seafoamed the rx8. Car feels alote faster and idles quieter. Very happy with results. two of the coils had big white spots. The other also had white spots but not as bad. Will post pics later. Still need to change the spark plugs and wires.

Update: installed spark plugs, cleaned maf and, ess. Car no longer has any power loss or starting problem when it's hot. But when the weather is over 100f the tempature needle starts to move dangerously to the right when in slow stop and go traffic with the a/c on. It has only happened once when it was 104f. Im thinking about buying a Godfather radiator to help with the cooling. They claim to cool 40% more than the stock radiator.

For what its worth if this thread comes up in a search...

Having an overheating problem is BAD. Read RIWWP's section on Cooling again in the New and Potential Owners Thread linked above. I wouldn't just replace the radiator on a whim hoping that fixes it if you aren't sure it isn't broken. The OEM radiator is actually quite good. I can't for the life of me find where on this forum it explains the different parts of the cooling system and how they work together to achieve engine cooling but i know its here somewhere... RIWWP, 9K, Charles?
Get yourself some way of monitoring your water temperatures. Do you have an iPhone or Android phone? About the simplest and cheapest method is a bluetooth OBD-II adapter and an app for your phone like Torque for Android. PM me for more details.

Yea I already got torque just waiting on my obd2 adapter. From what I understand these engine run hot. I don't think someone from pa could relate to a cooling situation in texas but thanks anyway.
