I got a CEL Code PO456. Any suggestions?

I am looking for some suggestions from anyone who has received the CEL code before.

I went and had the code read and here is what the print out said...

Definition: EVAP small leak detected.

Explanation: The ECM has detedted a large leak in the EVAP system during a system monitor test.

Problem Causes:

1. Defective, loose or missing fuel cap.

2. EVAP canister broke, hose cracked or not connected.

3. Purge or vent solenoid defective.

4. Vacuum leak at engine.

Again any suggestions, ideas or help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks All!!

You left your gas cap loose for two fill-ups.

Crank it till it clicks.

Dont worry, you are probably on an old version of the flash software for the computer - newer versions decrease the sensitivity for this alarm.

I didn't think it was my gas cap, because I hadn't gotten a fuel fill up in about a week. Also, the gas cap was the first thing I checked and it was tight.

Do you think I may need to get the gas cap replaced? Or do you think I should get the comp a new flash?

Thanks Guys!

In the absence of any other type of guidance, starting a diagnostic loop with the cheapest thing that might need to get fixed and working your way up from there is usually a sound procedure to follow.

Get a new gas cap, Stant part #10838. Fixes this issue almost all the time.
