I bought this
http://www.harborfreight.com/automot...ner-98614.html
If you wait sometimes it goes on sale for $80. Reads and delets cel codes. It does live data feed so you can monitor sensors on the car, it also checks missfires and if your PCM is ready for an emission test. I love it.

There are MANY different levels of "readers", usually higher price meaning more features. All ODB2 readers will read all ODB2 based vehicle CELs, and the RX-8 is ODB2.
In addition to my COBB AP, I have a bluetooth ODB2 dongle that I link to with my phone or tablet that can pull CELs as well as just about every possible ECU data stream. Just an example.
Your $200 ones are probably ones higher up the scale and do more than just read/clear CELs.
