Help! White smoke from engine.
I drove the car for about 300 miles and at the end of it I saw white smoke coming out the front. I thought I had overheated the car, so I just let cool down overnight. The next day I drove for about 5 miles and the smoke was there again, it comes with burning rubber smell. I checked the oil level, coolant level and everything else. Everthing is fine, the car sounds fine, drives smoothly etc. But I keep seeing this wierd white smoke coming up. I pop the hood and it seems to be coming from somewhere under the engine. <No white smoke from the exhaust>
Anybody with some idea what this is?
Please reply.
PS. this car is new, 2months 2000 miles.

Why mess with it. The car is only 2 months old. Take it to a dealer for a warranty repair. It's not your job to diagnose the problem at this point.
simply put, because it could be something VERY simple that might not be worth leaving at the dealership all day.
Take another peak under the hood or under the car if you have time. If not, call Mazda Roadside, have them send a flatbed, and take it to your dealership.

Keep in mind that a certain amount of "burnoff" is normal for these cars when brand new. Protective coatings used during manufacture and shipment are burning off of metal when it gets hot. I don't remember mine being visible, but I could smell it distinctly for several thousand miles. Kind of depends on how much smoke you're actually seeing, but if it is minimal you might just want to wait a bit and see if it tapers off. Someone could have put an oily hand on the exhaust, for example. Stuff like that will burn off eventually. On the other hand, things like plastic bags getting stuck to the exhaust will smoke and stink for a looong time....
If it's still a worrisome amount of smoke, then press on...
It doesn't take a lot of oil (or coolant) to create visible smoke, so the levels may not tell you much. Use a nice strong flashlight, especially when it is dark out, to help you pinpoint where the smoke is coming from. If you have a laser pointer, that works very well as a "smoke locator". Pay particular attention to the exhaust pipes and manifold. Very often, smoke is a result of something dripping on a hot exhaust pipe.

White smoke is from water/antifreeze.
Blue smoke is from oil.
Black smoke is from gas.
Like Nubo said, could be exhaust system new burnoff, plastic bag, or could be minor leak onto exhaust (windshield washer tank or heater coils or other coolant hoses)

Those colors apply to smoke from the tailpipe. From under the hood, oil smoke can appear whitish. Easy to tell the difference if you're familiar with the smells. Glycol-based coolant has a sweet smell. Oil is more of a burning smell. Burning rubber is different. and electrical/plastic have their own smells. Hard to tell someone how to judge unless they're already familiar with these smells.
I had this happen once but it was on an s2k, it turned out that I was careless when putting in engine oil and some of it spilled on to the engine, after some time driving, it started to smoke, was the engine oil, thats about it, nothing bad though
had to let you guys hear about my little thing .when i park my car on an incline backed in and start the car and don't let it warm up for more than three minutes the car will put out some very light blue smoke for a minunte or so untill it warms up.it has happened two times but from now on i let it warm up even in the summer time to be sure i don't mess anything up!just my 2 cents.
