help with scanalyser
I recently installed scanalyser program and can't get my computer to connect to my car via the cable. My computer uses the 15 pin connection, so I had to use an adapter. It says access denied sometimes, and other times will try to connect but will not. Im using a dell computer, with windows xp. Can someone help?

Don't know whether this would help but I got it off the webpage
Hymee Info
Important information If using a SERIAL to USB adaptor: After installing drivers for the unit...enter the 'system' in the control panel. From their open up the 'device manager' located in the hardware tab. Located the SERIAL to USB driver in 'ports.' Click on properties in driver settings and change the 'flow control' drop down menu to the 'hardware' setting instead of 'automatic' or 'xon xoff'. Now everything should work great!

Its probably a serial COM1 or COM2 port but I'm a dunce in these stuff so not much help I am. Try going to Control Panel -->System-->Click Hardware Tab-->Device Manager. Under Ports, there's COM1. Doubleclick on that then go to Port Settings.

It shouldn't matter since your computer will just assign a different number for each port. Have your laptop plug onto your car (your car should be in a status where the ECU can be read, maybe ignition on or something), reboot your laptop then go to the device manager and then right click on your laptop's name and scan for hardware changes. If no new ports are detected then chances are COM8 or 6 is one of them then you can change the port settings to the one posted earlier.
It sounds like the laptop wasn't able to detect your car, that's why I suggest try rebooting it.

Thanks Gomez
I replied to your email, but just in case this is quicker..
Usually access denied means that some other software is trying to use the port at the same time. Do you have something like palm pilot sync software or Microsoft ActiveSync installed. If so, can you disable the serial port in that software or uninstall it?
If not, and you're not sure what could be using the port already I can try and work it out... to do this you need to do the following:
1. Open up task manager (right click start bar, select Task Manager)
2. Change to processes tab
3. Make sure "Show processes from all users" is ticked
4. Expand the window so it shows the full list
5. Do a screen shot and send to me.
To do a screen shot usually as simple as:
1. Press the PrtScn key
2. Create a new email
3. In the body of the email, press Ctrl+V to paste the screenshot
4. send to support@performancedesign.com.au
Cheers

He's as bad as Can
I had a similar issue and the problem was because of dirty contacts in the ODB-II connector. Radio Shack sells an aerosol contact cleaner that worked.
