Well lets start with some basic info:

IS it the original Fluid.
Miles on ATF fluid?

If it is the original fluid, change it.

I would change the ATF since i doubt it has been changed. If you could get a sound clip of the noise that would help a lot. Do you think it could be vibration or is it a squeal. If its vibration then its your motor mounts. Does the car have any power loss?

Still sounds like a CAT. Need to remove pipe and look inside.
Prts open up in that range.
you could try removing air bubles in the cooling system.

^careful with dealerships - i've been lurking around and noticing a lot of people are getting jipped - getting something changed or repaired that have nothing to do with what's really wrong.

Like razz stated, a 'marbles in a can' sound at a certain rpm and a slight whistle could be a CAT issue. I currently have the same sound going on now because i hit something while going up a driveway. Do you have a CEL(check engine light)? Are there any local members that could possibly help?

^ is a bot?? but never mind that I have the same problem too!! I have a 2004 Auto with 52k on it and when the car hit around 51k i noticed that in the garage that my car made a squealing noise in only D or R not in N. Also from 1k to 3k when i hit the peddle i hear a sort of rumbling noise like the exhaust is shaking or something. I don't rember if i got a loss of power tho.. i mean i have noticed that my 0 to ~15 MPH is really sluggish, my families 09 corrola is faster then the rx8 i can get a record of the noise if anyone wants. *Disclaimer I have spelled many words wrong.. i dont care**

edit: the car takes like 3 to 4 cranks to start it was like 2 when i got it but its been getting harder.. even when its warmed up and hot.

anyone got any idea?? i kind of think its my cat.. because today when i cleaned it (by clean i mean rubbing the bottom near the little square, and taking the dirt off)... i think when near December i ran over a deer.. a dead one on the road i might have banged it up. but when i clean it, it goods WOOt nice and fast starting up and once i drive it for a bit it gets shitty again and it feels/sounds like the exhaust it shacking or burbling.. got any idea??
