Help! Pictures included...

So I was going through the process of deflooding my 2005 Automatic and for no good reason I had disconnected the hose with the BLUE locking mechanism on it, located on the driver-side of the engine bay, just above where the Spark Plugs are. I removed it to get a better view/reach of the plugs from up top... like I said, no good reason. (See 1st picture)

See deflooding thread here: https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...light=flooding

With the Fuel Pump fuse out, and with my Plugs pulled (They were disgusting, bought brand new NGK Iridium Spark Plugs to replace, RE7C-L and RE9B-T)... I cranked my engine but had forgotten to re-connect the hose with the Blue Connector.

I notice after about 6 cranks @ about 5second intervals each... then reconnected it, but it doesn't seem to have gone back on as tight as it had been latched before.

Do these colored fasteners need to be replaced after opening them? Is it a major issue that I didn't have it plugged back in before cranking my engine to deflood?

Also, shortly after doing this, a tapping/clicking sound started to come from my Automatic Transmission fluid tank... I think that's what it is, (See 2nd Picture). I boxed the exact area of the tank that the clicking was coming from, I put my hand against it and could feel that it was coming from this tank.

My buddy said there are some GEAR SOLENOIDS in there that click when they are activated... Is this normal or is this very bad? The clicking stopped after cranking again, but I feel like it may persist...

I have also heard that the only way to drain the Auto Trans. Fluid is to REMOVE this tank, is that right?

Anyway, turns out all of the engine cranking killed my starter, which I also included a picture of... Flooding issues can be a real bitch.

I know it's not the best for my car, but I'm a Shift Leader at Papa John's, not exactly rolling in money - so I'm planning on buying a remanufactured Starter - cheap-style from AutoZone.

These threads have been really helpful with DIY maintenance issues, earlier this week I also removed and cleaned my SSV (Secondary Shutter Valve)... The Kia dealer I bought my '8 from overfilled the oil. Retards.

If you're having SSV issues look here: https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-do-yourself-forum-73/diy-remove-ssv-beta-teaser-video-184663/

I also replaced my VDI and AIR solenoids.

This past week has been a real enjoyful learning experience with my RX-8... I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I bought the car but I'm falling in love with this high-maintenance machine.

Thank you Jon316G for all of your informative and insightful posts.

I think the blue hose may be a part of your OMP, but don't quote me on that.

The blue connector is a fuel line.

Isn't that the connecter that you are supposed to put a NEW clip on every time its disconnected? I seem to remember a member here having his engine replaced at a dealership and they did not put new ones on.. He was driving down the road and heard a loud POP and then a fire started in his engine bay, bye bye rx8.

He never included a picture of the connecter(for obvious reasons), but if that is the same one you may consider getting a new one. Hopefully someone else can say if it is..

More like a fuel vapor line that purges the vapor from the gas tank into the UIM.

Ok, just wanted to make sure of that lol. I just remember him mentioning a clip on a fuel line, didn't wanna see that happen twice. No harm in me saying that, but I guess next time I just wont and wait to see if their car ignites or not?

Nah, my battery is good - I had it hooked up to another running car with jumber cables while I was cranking my engine.

I'll be sure to stay away from even touching this connector. I don't want to be burnt to a crisp! Thank you! (I had been wondering what that was) Yikes!!
