No problem, we have a solution!
Involves possible soldering, so you may want to find a friendly tech to do it....

The soldering fix will set you up right and totally fix the problem...
I haven't got around to doing that yet... so in the short term I took the **** off, and just wedged some paper against the **** stem to keep the heater at level 16 in the diagnostic mode.
It may flutter around sometimes, but it is a good short term fix.
I tried taking some pictures of my footwell lights in this pic, but you can sort of see the paper lodge in the **** socket.
Only a good short term fix.

I did it on my car. Takes less than an hour of your time to pull the controls out, solder, and put it back together. Works like a charm. On mine, only 2 of the 3 pins were broken solders, but I figured since the thing was out, I'd go ahead and redo all of them. I use a "cold fusion" POS as-seen-on-tv for my small soldering, and it works great, even for someone like me that just plain can't solder very well...

Thank y'all, StealthTL, Vyndictive, RX8-Frontier, the problem is exactly what you depicted. I have fixed it and the heater works pretty well right now!
