Angry HEEEELP P0171 code

OK I have an 05 AT...yes I said auto so dont judge me... Anyway I have the Racing Beat Intake, exhaust, hollowed out CAT. If I try to go WOT it bucks like a horse and bogges out then shuts off and throws a P0171 code. I recently changed the coils and checked the MAF sensor and its clean. After a few mins the car starts back up and runs a lil but will lose power and shut off if I try to press down on the gas it sputters and shuts off again. Could it be the fuel pump or injectors? The code says running too lean in bank 1.

The car has 168859 miles on it, 3rd motor so the Motor only has roughly 30k on it, However everything else is all original miles except plugs, wires coils. One "STEALERSHIP" told me that he thinks its the O2 sensor because I told him that I had no CAT, up here they dont smog and dont ask questions. They aslo said that todays ECU's are so complicated that if the CAT was hollowed out that the ECU is getting mixed readings from the O2 Sensor so its over compensating so its going to make it run bad. Again I call BS because several people go without a CAT and theirs run fine. I have cleaned the MAF sensor and still having issues. GRRRRRR

I got both o2 sensors changed and it fixed my p0171 for about two months. Then it came back with a vengeance. Might be worth a shot.

A lean condition can also be caused by a clogged fuel pump pickup (I know, it's my favorite diagnosis, but also common - and more important, free!)

So if I am not mistaken, thats the sock thing on the pump? I thought about that as well. I could just take and replace the pump, and O2 sensors and see if that works. I do know that there is no vacuum leak because I checked all the hoses yesterday. This is why I miss cars back in the day that a monkey could work on. Todays cars you need a College degree to even start lol.

I would check for a fuel delivery issue as well. That code can be a vac leak as well, but that wouldn't account for the higher load stuff

Check the thread I linked to above if you have not already. If that thread cannot help you then you may just be SOL.

It has many good things in it, this picture being the best part probably.

Thanks I checked that and took it to the Mechanic to use as a diagnosis reference. Since I am military he is giving me a free diagnostic test to find the problem. I will update everyone and thanks for the advice in advance.

Try this, go to google.com and enter the following in the search field: site:rx8club.com battery change stall.

So the battery was part of the reason why the P0171 code was popping up because bad battery was not able to fully power everything so now that the new battery is installed the dealer did a diagnostic and the VDI solenoid under the intake is not working so it's allowing too much air in ergo the running lean in bank 1 or P0171 code. But here is the kicker, according to Mazda since I have the lower powered rx8 or the AT and not the MT rx8, instead of just replacing the solenoid for only $118 I have to replace the whole freaking intake manifold at a cost of $1200! since on the auto version the manifold and solenoid are 1 piece. FML so on a side note after I get the car fixed and cut off the arm and leg to pay for it, I am done with this car and Mazda and will be getting rid of it. Have had way too many problems with this car that any other car company would have recalled. 3 motors and over $20k in repairs to a faulty vehicle have left a bad vibe with me and the car and it's maker.

So just got my car back from mazda after 5 weeks and they said that my fuel injectors were cutting out so they changed the gaskets for the fuel injectors... cleaned the maf and cleaned the intake.

So basically they fixed a small vacuum leak Likely if they would have tested for that at the start they could have saved you about 4.5 weeks at the shop

Yes i agree! They said that air was leaking around the injectors, since the gasket was worn out. They also said the injectors were pretty plugged up. Taking the intake apart and cleaning the maf was the first thing they did and it fixed nothing.then they tested plugs and coils. Then changed the gaskets on the injectors. And that cleared the code. Also had to get the reverse switch on the tranny replaced because it was leaking. And a brake like that was leaking. No fun!
