Grinding gears/ canada warranty issues
I have an 04 rx-8 6speed manual. just over a month ago it was brought in for service on the transmission. It was grinding downshifting into forth and grinding upshifting into forth. They said they would fix it but only if i paid to have a new clutch put in cause apparently thats what caused the problem. So i had a clutch built with a kevlar plate and pressure rated for up to 450hp they then installed it and finished the warranty work.
Now it is back in again and i am having the same problem with 2nd gear and the same thing is starting with forth again but now thier excuss is i am driving the car to hard so i have to pay for the work.
I mainly drive the car as it should be driven of course i burn out time to time and run it at high rpm's its one of maxda's top performance rides what do they expect me to do with it. I was told that one bad shift can ruin the transmission I then replied with "so every person that owns an rx-8 is expected to do a perfect shift everytime or there warranty is worthless", i wasnt given a response.
I have brought posts of other people from these forums that have had this exact same issue into the dealership to prove that it isnt my dricing that has caused this issue and even spoken to them about the clutch fork which has been pointed out to me a few times along with contacting mazda canada about my issue and not getting very far with it. As far as I can see I am looking for a lemon laywer.
Does anyone have any advice or information regarding this issue, cause mazda is trying to stick me with a $2500 bill / and trying to skip out of warranty work once again.

RE: Grinding
It might be your synchros (synchronizers). I had the same problem last year, but it was from 1st to 2nd.
I took it to the dealer and they fixed it under warranty. Now its doing it again except it does it from 2nd to 3rd gear and only at 7000 rpms or more. Problem is I'm not under warranty anymore.
Anyways these transmissions have shitty synchros as it seems. I shift it it right and I don't abuse my 8. But you are not the only one. My suggestion is forget the dealership and try to find a rotary shop nearby to fix it. It will probably be cheaper.

Dont pay them crap, keep fighting. Most dealerships are garbage, all they want is *easy money*, oil change, washer fluid, transmission flash, rear diff oil change, simple job, etc. When it comes to difficult job, they try to avoid them as much as possible, giving customers all kinds of BS. thats why most people dont trust dealerships.
If you have the TONS of time and TONS of patience, you can just do it yourself.
My shifting is still ok, but if one day it dies, I will just do it myself.
Im not an expert, I just finished my 2nd grade ! (in terms of how to fix your car knowledge) but Im not afraid to do it myself, the parts are not that expensive, its just the labor.
Follow the shop manual, you cannot go wrong with it.

I am having a similar problem with my transmission.......It is grinding from 1st - 2nd at higher rpm's and when downshifting to 2nd. I took it in and they said that because it was a higher rpm problem that I was driving the car too hard and they wouldn't replace it under warranty.I arrgued for a while. The head mechanic took it for a drive and I was with him....he was driving nicely( below 5K) and the grinding was there.....he then said he thought it was my clutch wasn't completely disengageing? I have noticed now that I get the occasional grind when shifting into 5th? Although......I think he may have some validity in his statement, as my car has 60000km and my clutch has never needed to be replaced?. The way I look at it now is Mazda is going to **** us over regardless...so I am going to replace my clutch with an aftermarket one ( Act stage 1 kit) and have a transmission specialty shop asses my tranny and see what they say.

Do a search for a shop that specializes on rotaries. Thats what i'm doing. I live in South Jersey so I'm taking mine to JPR Imports in Blackwood NJ. They specialize in rotaries. I wish all of u rotor heads good luck in finding a good shop.
Screw those dealerships, they suck ***, nasty, wet, stinky, corporate ***.

I may try to rplace the clutch line with a stainless steel line first before dopping the cash on a whole clutch kit.......the way I figure it is that I would replace the line anyways with an aftermarket kit to get the full potential out of it....so I might as well check to see if it helps.....and yes, I like the idea of doing the clutch replacement myself as well......we'll see?
