Got Ventilation Kit to Fix Dipstick Foam- Now Engine Light is On

Well, Last Monday, I put my 05 MT in to have the warranty work done to replace the condesation in the tail light and the milky stuff on the dipstick bofore I kit 5ok miles. I thought I would get a dipstick sleeve installed, but instead I got the new ventilation kit installation (Bulletin 01-050/06 issued 11/21/2006). Two days ago, I smelled a strange odor in the car that I thought was the cars ahead of me and yesterday, my engine light CEL came on for the first time. The new ventilation kit involves disconnecting the battery, removing the extension manifold, installing a modified oil filler pipe and EVAP/fuel line bracket to the extension manifold, replacing the gaskets on the extension manifold, and installing a new PCV hose to he engine. There was a guy on this thread last week that said he had this done and got two CELs. I dropped my 8 at the dealer this morning and the first thing the service guy said was the Dipstick procedure does not involve the electrical system. But the Service Bulletin makes it clear it does involve the battery and three solenoids. Does anybody know of this happening to them after getting this warranty work done. I kind of wish I did not request it now

what makes you think the CEL today is from something that was done to the car days ago? and why would you not want the better vent system just because its possible a mistake of some kind was made during installation? the vent system in itself doesnt cause a cel.

at what point in the drive did the CEL light?

Hi Zoom44: The engine light came on last night ,10 days after the warranty work. I had a strange smell in the car two days ago that I thought was fromn other cars, but I can still smell it when I first start up, just not as bad. Since I just had the warranty work done, I figured it might be that. Of course, I hope so since I just turned 50k miles. Bob

Yes, I did buy gas before the cell lit, but I checked the gas cap after the CEL lit and it was tight. The dealer called and said the car had 43 drive cyles since the CEL was triggered so it may go a few days back. The dealer did not find anything wrong (so they say) turned off the CEL and it did not reappear at the dealer. So I can pick it up and see if the engine light comes on over the next few days. Bob

Engine Light is Now Off! Dealer Error

I picked up my RX-8 and was told an electrical connection was not completed when they first started the car after doing the warranty work to fix the gunk on my dipstick. Even thought the connection was made before I picked my car up the first time, it sent a message that eventually turned on the engine lght. That;s there story and they are sticking with it. The car runs fine now and the engine light has not come back on for 1 week. Thanks for all your help. Bob

What kind of "strange odor"? Gasoline, Sulfur, Strawberry, Chanel No. 5... ?

They probably forgot to re-install the EGR connector on the manifold...or one of the solenoid lines....

May have been a solenoid since they have to disconnet at least three to do the warranty work to correct the dipstick gunk problem.
