I have an 05 w/ 41k miles, I just bought this one a week ago, and had no trouble until today. I drove about 10 mins to my parents house (from work), car was warm when I shut it off. I was there about 15 mins, and went out and started the car. It made a horrible noise when I started it, it sounded like when you try to start a car that's already running, like a horrible metal scratching noise, and then the CEL came on and so I let it run for a minute, light stayed on, I turned it off & started it again and light was still on. Not flashing, just on. I drove it back to work and the light stayed on the whole time. I had a little less than 1/4 tank of gas. After work, about 4 hrs later, I started my car and CEL was still there. I let it warm up for about 5 mins and then drove to the gas station and filled it up. Then the light went off.
I am guessing it may have been related to low fuel, but it wasn't really that low, gas light never came on. & I can't figure out why it made that horrible noise when I started it. I think I have an updated starter, it starts faster & sounds "chirpier" than my last rx8.
Any ideas why this happened? Anything I should have looked at or fixed?

not sure on why it made the noise, could it have been a screech from the belts?
If the light went off after filling up, it could have been caused by a small Evap leak. (aka loose gas cap)

I wouldn't worry about it too much unless it comes back.
Our car will turn off a CEL light after a certain amount of time if the "problem" is resolved. ie; you tightened the cap.

If the light does come back on, you can always head to a local auto parts store such as AutoZone and they can scan the car and will give you the code for free.

Thanks for replying so quickly. It wasn't like a screech that would've come from belts I don't think, more like metal grinding, sounded exactly like when you try and start a car that is already running, but louder. It could've been the gas cap, I guess, but it came on right when the noise happened. I haven't touched the gas cap in over 4 days, so not sure about that. I wanted to take it to autozone right then, but I had to go back to work. I guess I shouldn't be too worried, it drives the same as it has been for the last week, and the light has stayed off since I filled up the gas tank.
