Exclamation Flashing CEL(Engine Light) at High RPM's

I was coming home today and merging onto the highway, so I dropped down into 2nd and hit the gas. I got up to about 8000 RPM's then switched gears and went up to 7000 RPM's in 3rd gear.

Then I got a flashing CEL!!! I put the car in 6th and after a couple seconds the light went off. Well I wanted to see if the light would come back on. So after a couple mins, I dropped down into a lower gear let it go up to 7500-8000 RPM's and bam the light comes on again. I am seeing the light flashing and a loss of power. But if I let off the gas, let the RPM's drop down, its stops!

I've done a search on here and most say its either a bad MAF sensor, spark plugs/wires or a failed catalytic converter.

What do you guys think? I want to make sure I have a pretty good idea before I walk into the dealership so things will run smoothly.

Oh and sometimes I have to let the car crank for about 4-6 secs before it starts. Not all the time but maybe twice a week or so.

Isnt that a problem if it keeps misfiring? What would cause that? Its done this more than once.

I second the misfire.

Was the car fully warmed up? (10-15 minutes of running)

I had it happen once but I was higher in the RPM range.

Pull the room fuse in the driver's kick panel and reinsert it (this resets the ECU).

Make sure it is warmed up and then see if it does it.

Could be ign, fuel...computer...I think I'd check the plugs and coils first...after that there is a long list of possibilities....

do you have an aftermarket intake? If the filter got wet...it could be sucking water into the engine and causing the CEL.

I had a flashing CEL accelerating WOT onto a hyw (third gear @ 8K rpm) No other symptoms. The car was well warmed up at the time. Since then I had the recall flash with the new plugs and haven't seen it again. (I'm not claiming that it's fixed)

I had the same flashing light problem, and I pulled the code with my Laptop Dyno program and it came up as a misfire. Dealer ended up replacing the spark plugs, doing the reflash, and changing the cat because it went bad.

I'm not sure which solved the problem, but there is no more flashing CEL. Maybe they just yanked the bulb...... ?

LOL We'll see what happens. Hopefully it was just a miss fire cause the car wasn't hot for a long period of time. But the temp was at normal.

I have to head over to Baltimore today, so when I get on the Highway I'll try it again and see what happens. Hopefully it wont do it again. I'm also going to remove the fuse like I was told to do.

given it was way up there in the power band, I'm going with ignition coils. take it to the dealer and get the upgraded ones.

Ah I forgot about the eccentric position sensor reset with the 20 taps on the brake I did after it had occurred. Hasn't happened since.

Good post TeamRX8.

I have a similar problem. Last Wednesday, I was using cruise control, maintaining 75 mph. Engine was warm after already having had traveled approximately 100 miles enroute to North Jersey. With no apparent cause, CEL starts flashing. I slow down and CEL turns off. Later, on the return trip (Friday), while I accelerating on a merge ramp, at 7,000 rpms, CEL starts flashing. This time, instead of turning off, it stays on.

I have scheduled an appointment with the local dealership. Strangely, this morning (Monday), the CEL turned itself off. I'm still going to the dealership so they can at least pull the CEL code to help me figure out if there's a real problem. I make a lot of business trips to North Jersey. The last thing I want to do is rely on the good Samaritans of North Jersey for road-side assistance

I will post any meaningful info from the dealership.

I am experiencing this same problem - today on a 260 mile trip cruising down the highway at 80mph... my CEL starts blinking then goes off.... about 10 minutes later it starts blinking again but this time it stays on.

I'm ordering one of the CAN scan tools to see whats up myself. What Sucks is my car is pretty modded. (Flywheel/Clutch, HF Cat, Exhaust, Pullies, Suspension) all the crap a stupid dealer would BS me about.

i just got it today the same thing, not really worried to much if its just a misfire, and its the first time its happened in 20 months of ownership. the story i was on an on ramp in 3rd around 4-5k rpm, and grive it as it straightens out, i shift into 4th and get to around 8k in 4th and cel starts doin its thing. i booked an apt with the dealer to see if i can get a print out since i don't have a scan tool. will keep you guys posted

Mine started doing this today. Took off down the interstate and in 3rd gear 7k rpm it started flashing. Did it again at 8k rpm in 1st. I have had my engine replaced twice in the past 2 months. Although, I did just add the RB Plug wires and RB oil filter adapter. Hopefully its just a lose plug wire!
