Well, on my way to work today I was rocken out to the Green Day American Idoit CD when I happened to glance over and noticed all the lights in the center console had gone out. The illumination lights behind the controls, the radio/climate control display, everything was black. Before I could do anything, it came back on. I thought no big deal.
Later on, I left work to make a ciggerette run. On the way my buddy says, "Hey, your lights are out" and I glance at the center console and they're out again! Everything was gone. I looked at it and it flickered back on, then off, then on, then off....well you get the idea. Sometimes it would come on for a few seconds, then off a few, then on a for a few minuets, then off for a few. Very intermetiant. But the whole time the CD was still playing without skipping a beat. I poked the area (or pushed) of the radio where the tape/MD player would be, and that seemed to make it come back on. I was pretty pissed at this point, anyway, because my beloved 8, whom I had bragged endlessly about to this guy, was letting me down.
So, fast forward, I'm on my way home. The lights are now staying out more than they are staying on. When the radio/climate control display screen comes back on, it does the start thing by displaying "mazda RX-8" on the screen. Occasionally, I see weird bars going accross the screen, like a radio possesed. Then, it finally happenes- the CD and radio cut out.
By the time I get home, I can't get the fucken light to come back on, and I can't get the radio or CD to play. I can't turn on my A/C (I don't really need it but I'm affraid it may get stuck in the ON position) or change my ventilation direciton, or defrost, or anything. I am super-pissed.
Anyone else had this problem? It should be a warrantee issue, right? It better be- I just got the car on the 1st of this Month!!! But here's my other question- should I take it to the dealership I bought it from (a Ford dealership- got it used), or go accross the street to the Mazda dealership? It's a 2005- so it still has the balance of the factory warrantee.
I have to go in for my taillight (water in the driver side taillight that won't go away) so I figure goto the Mazda steelership and see what's what. I think it's gotta be a short in the wire somewhere, but why would it just start now outta the blue after a near month of ownership? Strange....

a couple of them have gone bad, many less than tail lights.. yes it is a warranty issue.
