ESS functionality

I've been trying to do some research into my car not starting recently, I know the Eccentric Shaft Sensor effects if I will get spark on cranking, but does anyone happen to know if it effects whether or not the fuel pump will function?

if the ESS is disconnected your injectors will not fire. If you follow the mazda zoom zoom cleaner TSB you'll find they have you disconnect the ESS for this very reason.

It effects the fuel injection....so you will get no fuel to the engine.

Not sure if it shuts down the pump or not

That I was aware of, I knew it stopped the injectors from firing, but I wasn't sure if it effected the fuel pump priming or turning on at all.

Just trying to troubleshoot the issue more. I heard absolutely zero noise when I had my old oem pump in, hence why i think its the pump itself. Voltage is getting to the plug on the harness that plugs into the four pins on the pump assembly, So if the pump isn't priming (fuses are good, even tried jumpering the two pins in the fusebox) I wasn't sure if the ESS would have anything to do with pump functionality if it was bad.

Next time I disconnect my ESS I'll take a look at my fuel pressure gauge. I suspect it is still primed and pressurized.

If you have voltage to the pump and it isn't working...It is the pump

Shouldn't need to worry about anything else till you get the pump replaced

The fuel pump still gets primed and there should be pressure. The ESS is not in the electrical circuit to the fuel pump.

The ESS matters for injector and spark firing from a perspective of "the ECU needs to know what position the engine is in to know when to fire each, if it doesn't know, it won't fire either."
