Engine Warning Light

Link error reading from two testers at Auto Zone. Engine runs fine. Gas cap tight. New coils, plugs, wires a few thousand miles ago. Oil full and K & N Typhoon cleaned about a thousand miles ago too. I have 30,000 trouble free miles on my 04 GT, 6 speed. I use Sea Foam every 5,000 miles. Any thoughts before I try my warranty extension?

Do you have any other mods? I would try and check your vacuum lines and the intake see if anything is loose, could be false air? Just a shot in the dark.

That means their reader doesn't support the CAN protocol.
Try another Autozone. The two near me both worked fine.

I have had that advise. I do not understand why two different appliances failed. I will try another Auto Zone though. I know engine light can be a million things.

Thanks everyone for the help.

When I went to Autozone for the first time, I asked them if their reader supported CAN... they just stared back at me puzzled.
If Autozone can't seem to get it, see if you know anyone who has a scan tool, ask to borrow theirs.
My father's scan tool doesn't list the RX8 as a supported vehicle, but since it supports CAN, I was able to read my code (my midpipe throws a constant code).

I believe the scanner was OBD2.

Yeah, OBDII won't work. Has to be a CAN scanner, same connection though that's why the OBDII plugs in but won't read. In spite of the gas cap being "tight", chances are it is the cap. Most common error code, my 04 is on its third gas cap in 90K miles, the gaskets get small tears and even when clicked tight they can leak. If the light came on immediately on start up it is indicative of gas cap small evaporative leak because the ECU reads fuel system pressure immediately and compares to the value when last shut down.

i went to autozone too and their scanner didn't work for me either. I eventually wound up at walmart and theirs did work. For such a easy and simple request a engine scan is tough to find. Pepboys wanted me to pay 20 bucks. A good year tire shop wanted me to drop the car off for an entire day for them to scan an engine code.

Sure, but if you are going through all that trouble I'd suggest the accessport.

Edit: There is also the Hymee Scanalyzer and the EFIDude logger.

Or...if you want a somewhat simpler approach, go get the www.scangauge.com

Clearly not as fancy, but does the job.

I will camp over night at this DLC so I can be first in line. I plan on buying Actron CP9180 about $139.00. E mailed the company last weekend and they responded Monday morning. It was a real person with a real responds

not a boiler plate answer. I like that.

Gas cap might be the problem too as car runs fine. Thanks again for the help.
P.S. I pick up my 2009 Mini Cooper S Saturday. I had planned to sell my 8
but I like it to much to sell and re selling prices are not good.
