Engine stutter from 6,000-7,000

Just like the title says. It occurred yesterday, while having fun next too a friend I noticed that when I rev my engine (this only occurs in neutral) that the engine will stutter/slow down at the 6,000-7,000 range, then proceed all the way too 9K with no problem.

I have 62,000 miles, stock plugs were just replaced last week, which makes me want too say that it's the coils. The exhaust tone has also changed, and there is a definite loss in power throughout the whole RPM range. A lot of things point towards it being the coils except for the fact that I haven't seen my CEL light blink at all... I'm running with a midpipe, and have absolutely no rear O2 sensor.

I remember when I first installed my midpipe on this car that I could hear the sound of gas leaving the engine. Since then I've had different midpipes with more resonators so that sound I can't really hear that sound with my current setup. Well that sound of gas leaving the engine, that kind of hiss/raspy sound seems too getting louder and louder within the past 2 days...

I'm buying coils anyway. It would just be nice if somebody could confirm my fears!

I do know the new flash prevents people from holding the RPM at a high idle for too long.

Read up on that flash. Although I don't think that's the problem.

no, I know it's not that. This is only under WOT in neutral. Just driving today with the sun shaded by the clouds. I drove under WOT. 1st gear was just a little behind what it was a week ago, but 2nd gear feels like 3rd gear did a week ago.

Also, I've never really been able too see the flame from my exhaust when the sun is out. That makes sense right...? Well today was the first time in my life I could see the space around my car light up, even though the sun was out....

My car is just slow straight up. I'm waiting on these coils/wires then will give an update.... I always feel like the problems I experience with my 8 are dumb, because every time I search the feeling I get from my car I find nothing.

coils yes,

but the s flash changed some stuff you can do in neutral...

like rev the engine.. it was a gas tank temp thing.. or if you were doing it cold. it might have been going into the limp mode..

but, wtf are you reving the engine to 6 k in neutral.. dumb.

down gearing is dumb? And apparently because of other banned threads I can't describe even what the description of down gearing is in fear of anybody knowing that I've never been too a track in my life.

not taking that out on you at all swoope, and thanks for the confirm on that it could be the coils

nope..

but you talk about reving in neutral.. that is a s flash issue... and just odd..

i would go first with coils..

second, cat. but doubt it.. that tends to make the engine flat at 5k.

the other bad answer is engine.. you might give premix a whirl see if it stops..

but, what do i know..

no cat, and I haven't had this issue ever before. Except for that time when my supercat melted my rear O2 sensor and got stuck in my exhaust's Y-pipe, but that's a while back.

the clue is the exhaust note has changed..

cheap test one.. get some syn 2 stroke oil.. put 6 oz in a fill up.. see if it changes..

hmm...i'm wondering if these engines are just really temperamental.
-my motor doesn't seem to search for redline between 8000-9000 as it does from 5000-8000. why?
-SWOOPE: is it normal for the engine to make a whistling sound?...at about 10% throttle?
again, i don't think its really a problem as i'm sure its the same as day one...but probably more pronounced that i vfad delete and blocked the air damper. i guess i really just started noticing.

any inputs guys?

o, and from my first concern about less then enthusiastic redline search... i think its mostly with oil temps around 210. need to drive more to verify...but other times or perhaps lower temps...~180, its fine.

no,
not normal to make that sound. but if you did not plug the place where the vacuum is taken for the vdaf it would make that noise and all the rest of the stuff you are talking about.

it turned out too be the coils. One of the trailing coils was going out, moved the coil too leading and the engine started going crazy. Replaced the coils and wires last night.

Rev issues completely went away!
