Engine stalls when cold and at stop signs please help

Hi,
I just purchased a 2004 rx8 60,000 miles, all stock. The car is a little hard to start takes extra cranks to fire. When cold idle bounces from .5 to 1.5 than eventually stalls. When warm i usally get a decent idle until I start driving, usually after a higher rpm than again it will fluctuate from .5 to 1.5 and eventually dies. (that is at a stop sign). If i unplug the MAF sensor I get a solid idle but as soon as I plug it back in the engine stalls. So far I replaced the plugs, wires, coils, maf sensor, cleaned throttle body and reset the eshaft sensor by pressing the brake repeadedly. I am not popping any engine codes and the engine feels strong. I do hear a faint caugh from the exhaust while at neutral and rpms held at 6k Please help if anyone can point me in the right direction!! Thx so much!!!

check your two mesh screens inside the intake and make sure they are ined up right and not bent or warped.

I checked the sreens however I only seen one screen not two, they were in good shape. Its weird that if I unplup the MAF sensor I get a good idle..... any thoughts on that?

Stock intake does have two screens, the second one that you can't see is at the other end of the tube( kinda hard to see it unless you use your fingers).

Is your car MT or AT?
Original owner? And driving style habits
I think you should try a de-card ( Seaform, Bg44k) with 60K.

Also, I might add that you should maybe check the MAS voltage. You may have a sensor that has gone bad

try cleaning your MAF sensor. i was having problems after installing an AEM, and it worked wonders. just soak, let dry (about an hour, probably overkill), reinstall.

In your first post, you talk about a faint cough from the exhaust. Is it basically just a small popping sound here and there? If so, that is pretty common. Wouldnt the o2 sensor send a CEL though? Did you ever find the second mesh screen to check for wear or misalignment?

there is no need to go replacing o2 sensors if your dont have a check engine light for them.

I checked the screens they are both good. I checked for a vacuum leak, i have a good pressure there. I agree it should pop a cell for the o2, but where else can I look? Bad computer? Bad cat?

i remember popping a cell ("something to rich"), a couple of times.... But im not sure if I created it myself from revving the engine to high? If not im pretty sure thats points fingers at the o2 and cat?
