Engine shut off when stopping/running rough all the time
Hello i have a 2006 mt 6 speed rx8 with 53k it has a RR single pipe cat back weapon R intake and LS2 coil upgrade.
Recently the car has been running a bit rough it will make a quiet popping noise out of the exhaust at idle and at higher rpm will backfire very loud when letting off the throttle. It also drops around 200 rpm at idle and you can tell its not running right. This is leading me to believe it is running a little rich.
About a month ago it shut off at a light once coming to a stop but started right back up again i though i could fix my problems with a next ignition so i installed the ls2 coils new ngk sparks and msd wires nothing really changed just recently this week it has shut off twice when coming to a stop but starts right back up with no hesitation i though it was bad compression at first but then realized that if it was bad compression it wouldn't start back up after it shutoff.
So now im leaning more towards a possibly dirty maf or eccentic shaft position sensor.
If anyone has any imput on what could be the issue please let me know i hate it when my car isnt running right.

Typical issues from ignition failure, ESS fouling, and MAF fouling.
It sounds like you addressed the ignition, and with your intake, it's probably the MAF. Weapon Rs don't exactly have a good reputation on the 8 for playing fair with the MAF. Even if you can get it to run smooth, you are probably at less power than with the OEM intake.
Pull the MAF, clean it off with a can of MAF cleaner, make sure the screens in the intake are still in place. Clean the ESS while you are at it, and then do the 20-brake-pedal-stomp ECU reset and give it a couple drive cycles to re-learn the fuel trims. See what changes from that.
