Question engine rattle during a long road trip

Just finished driving my 8 from South Texas to my new home in So Cal. It is about a 1650-mile drive, 24 hrs (drove it non stop). Car drove like a dream all the way until about 350 miles from my destination. A little after Phoenix AZ (101 degrees F) I started getting a weird rattling noise coming from the engine. It would come and go not varying with accelerating or revving. I made it home ok, and the car's performance didn’t decrease. First thing I thought was that something might be loose but I checked and found nothing.

Today I went to work and back and didn’t hear any rattling.

Any Ideas or others with similar problems in the past?

Thx for any info in advance!

edit - I just remembered that a long time ago I accelerated quick and revved til red line before shifting to 2nd and heard a similar rattle. I rearly rev pass 4.5-5k before shifting and I dont race so I usually dont expirience this, well, until recently during the later part of my trip home.

Check your OIL !

You should burn a quart every 1000 miles.

Only rattle I get sometimes is from the Sun roof being open.

try this test.

With windows down, a/c and radio off and car warmed up, get on it hard and listen for a "rattle" around 6k to and/or through 9k.

If there is then this is a common complaint, with as far as I can tell, no decisive answer. Some say its the ports rattling some say its detonation. . . I don't know, but try the experiment.

Bringing this back from the dead... (sorry) but...

This problem has returned and is worst now. Same sound... (like a weird rattling) comes while accelerating. I get on it... WOT... then from like 4500 through the higher RPMs I hear the rattle. Sounds like something is about to fall off!! I also am getting huge power losses. I ran the codes and I was getting P2070 before... and now P2096. Going to take the car into the dealership tomorrow morning but might not stay for long if they try to charge me a bunch of $$ to run test. I am now at 79xxx miles so no warranty (only engine and transmission core).

Going to clean the MAF for the P2096 code when I get home tomorrow as well.

If it isn't the coils, plugs, or wires then it's most likely the fuel pump. Mine did this but only after the fuel pump started to over heat (been driving her for a while).

How many miles do you have on your 8? How many miles on the plugs, coils, & wires?

After a bit of research I am almost sure its the "MIAC" problem. I'll confirm this in a few days when I do the DIY mod to fix this.
