engine noise - should i worry or not

when I acclerate and push the car realtively hard I get this sound (somewhere around 5k-6.5k), like valve clatter, but real fast valve clatter. Lasts for about 1/2 second at most.

any suggestions.

That's your 5th and 6th ports opening. Should be totally normal!

Actually, this very likely is engine mistiming/misfiring. If you're using 89-octane-or-lower gasoline, that's your culprit. I only say this because it happened to me. I took it to my dealer, had the service manager do a test drive with me, and when the same noise arose, that's what his diagnosis was. If you don't believe me, fill up with 2-3 tanks of 93 octane, and if the sound doesn't disappear, I'd be very surprised. The service manager said that using a non-recommended octane fuel causes mistiming because they burn at different rates, thus causing the clattering noise you mentioned.

ok, but there IS a TSB out on on the preoiler or something like that not suppling enough oil. I have always used 91 octane from the same Shell station.

The who "oiling" thing has me pretty worried. Somtimes im glad I leased.
