Engine needs to be replaced...

I took my 2004 rx-8 automatic with 44k miles on it, in for the cat to be checked out because I thought it was bad. They said it had a code come up for it but they decarbed the engine and the code went away and it ran better. They also said they looked at the cat and everything looked fine. They said they were also going to check the compression on the engine to make sure it wasn't bad. When they went to go do that, they found oil in the intake manifold and air filter. Then they called Mazda and they told them to replace the engine. So they said have to order one and it takes 5 to 10 business days. I don't mind getting a new engine but they said that its recommended to get the oil injectors replaced when swapping out the engine and it costs $400. Is this true? I don't really want to spend that much if I don't have to or can do it at a later date.

this could be due to overfilling the oil. Do you have an oil catch can?

No I don't. When I got the oil changed, I'm pretty sure the idiots at firestone on base put too much in. I don't mind getting the engine replaced because its covered. Plus I'm thinking about selling the car in a couple months because E-3 with two car payments and a kid sucks. We got my car before our little surprise and my wife watches him and doesn't work . I'll probably get a different car after my next deployment. Really just need to know if I need to buy the new oil injectors or not, or if possible to get Mazda NA to cover it somehow.

They are easy to test...if they are blocked or not working properly have them replaced..otherwise there is no need to do it

No need to replace. Ask them how they came to this conclusion. I mean, did they remove the Upper Intake Manifold, remove the OMP injectors and test all 4 of them. And what scenario did they use to test them?

I don't think they tested them at all. The guy just said its recommended to replace them when putting a new engine in.
