Engine on it's last legs!!!!!!!
Finally decided to bring my 8 to the dealer after changing the plug, wires and coils. Car has been running bad for a while and seemingly was running ok for a while but has deteriorated greatly in the last few weeks. Right around 100k mark I had posted a thread about white smoke occasionally at start up. I wish it to the dealer ship then. Needless to say I have 113k on her now and Mazda 112 near my house said they would check it out for $99. that included compression testing. A different dealer i had asked about compression testing 2 months ago said it was $99/hr and it could take a few hours and they weren't willing to work with me at all as far as getting me a new engine because I was 6k over.
Point I'm getting to is DON'T DO WHAT I DID IF YOU'RE IN A SIMILAR SITUATION.
Anyway, the car is at the dealer still and the Mazda rep is stopping by. The mechanic said it was worth a shot (obviously) to show the car to the mazda rep and see if they could help me at all. Keep in mind I've been having trouble with the car and most likely was due to this very issue for awhile now just no way to prove it that I know of anyway.

I have a trusted mechanic that could do it, although he's not familiar with rotary's. Also have a good friend that is a mechanic but he himself is not familiar with rotaries as well. Any idea how much a rebuild goes for from Mazmart?

well that's not awful, but wish me luck guys. It's at the Dealership and the rep is going to look at it. If they don't help me out I'll have a fancy driveway ornament until tax return season =(

He's as bad as Can
In the meantime there should be shops around you that specialize in rotaries and could do the Install. Also ask what the dealer would charge to install a engine you provide. Since it would be a cash deal you should have some leeway with the per hour labor rate.

yeah, I will keep that in mind. Paul from Mazmart got back to me and said they are usually around $2,700 for a rebuilt plus core. Hopefully I won't have to go that route
