Engine Exchange by Mazda
I read here a few weeks ago about a program under which Mazda is replacing engines in a limited number of high-mileage RX-8s. The aim being to break down the old engines and analyze the wear. I can't find the thread I had previously read, and yes, I have tried the Search with no success.
Can someone help me? Give me a link to the original thread or re-open the discussion.
My car (at 34,500 miles) qualifies, and I've been offered a new engine by a Houston dealer. This is a large, busy dealership; and I've been very satisfied with my limited experience with their service department.
Your thoughts?

Thanks for your help, guys. This looks like slam-dunk for me. Especially since my car will be sitting in Houston for a week while the wife and I are sunning on the beach and golf course.
Maybe its some truth in the weather theory then--cause we have extremely varied weather patterns down here. With the wideopeness maybe the travel distances and weather actually causes an increased incidence in the amount of 'high' mileage RX8s. Mine is a year old and I have 29,000miles on it. It had 6,000 when I got it tho.

Looks like only a few, selected dealerships are participating. Probably the higher-volume dealers in major markets like Houston. My originating dealer in San Antonio seems to know nothing about it. I'm at 18 months, 35, 000 miles. Most of my "wide-open spaces" are I-10 through the swamps and bayous of East Texas and Louisiana--over and over and over again.
