Eml was on, but now odd starting behaviour

while driving the other day the eml came on (didnt flash) while i was on my way home. i pulled up and had to go to work, when i got home i gave everything a cursory look and noticed the petrol cap wasnt on fully so did this up and thought i'd reset the engine management code and see if i could bring it up again and to make sure this was it
(i dont have an obd2 reader but one is on its way)

disconnecting the battery for a few mins and putting it back on reset the code, i then drove to my partners house all was fine, when i got there (the car had warmed up fully) i turned off the engine. 5 mins later when i was leaving her house, the car as i started it instantly cut out. it did this 2 or 3 times until it would stay on. it then on any input of revs would drop and die.

after trying a few times with the revs i managed to get it to drive off and got home without it cutting out. (the eml didnt come on again)

as a side not after disconnecting the battery to reset that first code i turned the car on fully, then pumped the brakes 20 times and turned the wheel i didnt turn the car off after this but drove off ( i dont know if this would have an effect)

any ideas if that could be the problem or if there's anything i should be looking out for. i havent had time to even start it until this weekend.

one other note it was dark and i put the interior light on, whenever the revs would drop and die the light would flicker and dim

Might want to check your battery connections. And alternator output.
