Electrical woes

I've searched here along with the manuals from foxed. My current issue is I have no output from the alternator. I removed and had it checked today and the technician said it was good. The issue lies elsewhere, he told me it was controlled by the computer and that I needed to look for something in the harness or ecu. Has anyone here experienced a similar issue?
Thanks
Lance

Check the wires coming out of the plug on the generator , it can easily be a broken wire near the plug. You can also check that they have continuity back to the PCM. That will rule out a broken wire in a harness. I can dig up the pins to check if you can't find them...I'm just not at home and can't access a wiring diagram right now

With the car running you should have 13 to 15V on the B+ at the generator and approx 3-8V on the right hand wire looking at the back of the plug with the tab up. That should be less than 1V with the engine off. The other wire should have close to 0 with the car off and the V will vary with load running

Thank you dan. I went back into the manuals after reading your post and found the pin outs for the two wire gray connector on the generator. I forgot to bring my dmm home(brought tools) so I'll check continuity and voltage tomorrow. I'll post my findings then.

Well I put everything back together last night and drove it to work today. Pulled in the bay to check the pin outs for the two wire gray connector and the charging system is working again...14.23 at idle. So I guess I'll have her drive it and monitor for changes.

Most likely had a bad connection on the connector. wouldn't hurt to clean it with contact cleaner and coat it with dielectric grease next time you have it apart.

The power steering connectors are worth doing the same if you decide to take it back apart
