Man I do not get very good mileage at all, but nothing like what some of you are reporting. I average about 15-16 city and can get into the 20's on the highway. I was getting a little worse with the M-flash and then I did the 20 stomp on the brake thing to clear the pcm and have it re-learn my driving habits, could all be in my head, could have been it was the beginning of spring, but my fuel consumption got better.
I mean at 12 MPG in town what do you have to lose? put the key on accessory on, in neutral, without the engine running, hit the brake 20+ times as quickly as possible until you see the oil pressure indicator sweep from left to right, give it a tank and see if it helps.
I have not done any experimenting during the relearn period to see if driving really hard or like a granny has any benefit to HP and fuel consumption. Or if the PCM relearns constantly and this makes no difference what so ever...

I have read several posts wherein the authors are unhappy with the "M" level. I did some G-Tech runs comparing the "L" and "M" flashes and I found a consistent 20 h.p. increase with the "M". I also have a number of other mods, so I am wondering if the "M" flash is more accomodating of certain upgrades(my mods were done as soon as I got the car). I used to get 24 mpg and I now get 20-22. I'll take the trade-off as my 8 now runs much better and in a much more consistent fashion than it did before. I used to run 14.2-14.4@100 mph, and I am now running a consistent 13.9@102.

I am looking at that option now.h

it's sad really that people didn't research the engine before they bought the car. I went into this car realizing that it's not exactly the most fuel efficient out there by any means- hell, let's face facts- there are V8's getting better mpg
however- this is definately a far stretch above the earlier rotary as well- it's not mpg it's gpm (gallons per mile) or as a friend would say- "but how many smiles per mile is it?"
the only thing I really miss about my wrx is the go anywhere driveablitily and the turbo
not being able to drive the car for about half a year does kind of suck (I live in NE)

I really couyld have cared less about mpg, BUT, when is goes from an average 23 mpg to 17 because of the will of Mazda, THAT is BS.

Low mileage per tank has been a complaint of mine from day 1 also. Now have M flash, 18,800 miles on the car. Still get about 200 miles/tank. My MPG has been as high as 23, but usually around 15. Oh well.

New PCM Flash
I know there was a previous thread about this, but is the new service bulletin released on 11/1 an N flash?
If I understand the bulletin, if you have the M flash, you do not need to have the upgrade performed. However, I received a letter in the mail about the bulletin and to have my dealer do the upgrade. I brought it in this morning and had it done. It's listed on the invoice as a recall and the part number is N3H6-18-881A. I had the M flash performed this past spring.
The letter also states I will be receiving a video about starting the car. The dealer said they are doing all this, because Mazda will no longer be covering floods under warranty.
My car doesn't seem to run any differently, even though the upgrade is supposed to correct a lack of power above 6000 rpm.
Did everyone receive this letter? I haven't heard much about this and was curious about whether this recall is for everyone.

It is because Mazda released the M-Flash in the spring or so, and many people got it just by asking. Then Mazda made it a mandatory upgrade as part of 'special program' (MSP04) in June... and I guess each car's VIN has a flag in their computer if the MSP was performed. Since you got it done prior to the M-Flash becoming an MSP, Mazda doesn't know about it... so they must be going through their database of owners and sending that letter. If you go in, they'll just hook your car up to the WDS, verify what calibration you're on, and update your record that the MSP was closed out for your car.

G84boy, I'm sure you're right, but the whole thing is strange. I had 3 stickers under the hood for the various upgrades and recalls, and I thought one was for the M flash. My dealer told me about this new upgrade when I was in a couple of weeks ago, but they didn't have the CD loaded and I couldn't wait an hour for them to do it. I received the letter last week. The whole thing is curious, because it seems like a waste of time and money to do this again. Are the dealers not recording the completion of the recalls and service bulletins?

THANKS expo1!!!
From what I can tell, Mazda does care about it's customers. I've written to them about my wife's Mazda 6 and they always respond very fast.
Thanks again for shareing...

i had the m flash done back in april or so..............went in last week complaning about lack of horsepower and a 5k service. gave me this new update.......they claim it is slightly different than what they released in april. I agree.........the car now has little more torque.......and the nice kick abouve 6k rpms is back.....that seem to go away after the first m flash i got. Car runs much better with this new flash........
