Wth?! I am about to install hids into my 04' rx8 and disconnect battery like it said. <--never did that on other cars but i suppose its good practice. Ok here is problem. Before i even get to start messing with the hids i abort, cause i didn't know u had to remove bumper for headlights on this car. (omg that sucked) So pulling my car into a bay the next day to take off bumper, the car stalls just as im pulling in. Also noticed when I connected the battery back yesterday i had to do extra while shifting, and clutching and what not. Cause i thought i was gonna stall. Now after it stall i look at the bat. and a screw on the positive is bright white. I scrape some of it off, install hids and reconnect battery. I noticed that my lights and all electrical equipment is acting funny. For example if i hold down the window button the engine does that 'im gonna stall choke', plus the head lights dim or flicker. I later changed the fuse to 20a from 15a but still no good. Stalled just as i reached my destination. When i tried to turn back on to park properly it made a click noise a few times. A LOUD CLICK If you have a clue please share. Cause i dont wanna spend a fortune swapping out tons of things.

 

sounds like a weak battery. was going to show itself even if you hadn't touched anything, but removing the contacts pushed it to the forefront.

did you check the fluid level in the battery? Take it to a car supply shop and have them test it.

 

Will do man. I'll do anything to keep this car in tip top shape. I don't like how the last owner had it. Its the little things.

I would change the fuse back to a 15 Amp. Fuses are used as a failsafe, they blow before damage is done to other parts of the car. By adding a 20 Amp you may find the equipment it is protecting will blow before the fuse. It is cheaper to replace a fuse then equipment.

Also if you have corrosion (white powder) on the terminal you need to clean it all off with a wire brush or similar and add a little bit of grease (silicone grease works well but any is fine) to ensure a good electrical connection.

 

+1, I have installed 2 HID kits on the car and have not required anything more than the 15amp fuse for them to work properly

 

It's always the last owner, that's why they sold it. Anyway, take care of it and good luck.

 

I took it to the dealership. They said it was a loose connection. But the day prior it didn't shut off at all, the first time i showed them. lol Then it stalled today right before their eyes. To fix the scuffs and scrapes and little damages is around 400. And I can't believe i forgot about the fuses...smh I DEAL with electricity. Was following directions without even thinking. MAIN reason my car started stalling in the first place. STEP 1: disconnect battery. now watch all hell break loose.

HIDs draw less power than a standard bulb just FYI. HID bulbs are 55watts at about 3 to 3.5 each amps a piece, while halogen bulbs are 65watts up to 120watts at about 4.5 - 5 amps. The only time HIDs take the same amount of power is when charging up the ballast.

HIDs require less power and draw less power while providing about 3times the amount of light.
