DOA? Help?

I'm new to the forum, so first off, hi to everybody.

A couple weeks ago, I bought an 05 RX8 with 46k on it. This morning, I jumped in and found the battery flat. Didn't even have enough juice to energize the power door locks. I hadn't left any lights on or anything.

Over the last couple days, the starter has occasionally clicked for a second as though the battery was weak, but once it engaged, it spun hard and started fast so I thought I just didn't have the clutch down all the way or something. The previous owner just replaced the battery, so I think the problems lays elsewhere.

I don't know much about the RX-8. Is this indicative of a common problem area, or does someone know where I should start looking? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Make sure the connections are clean and tight, have the battery load tested and check the charging system, should be about 14.25 volts.

The cables to the negative terminal were tight, but the positive cable popped off in my hand with a gentle tug. I cinched everything back down, and the car fired up. Thanks much!
(I only feel semi-stupid now . . .)
